SHOW- CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,828, dated November 16, 1 886.
' Application filed June 29, 1885. Serial No. l7 0.Q55. (No model.)
T0 on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN- EDWARD LEE, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Ohicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show'Oases, of which I do declare the following to be a full,.clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of my improved case from the rear side, and showing Fig. 2 is a view in vertical transverse section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the bottom of the case and of a display frame connected thereto. Fig.4 is a perspective view from the front of the case. Fig. 5 is a detail fractional view, showing themanner of pivotally connecting the upper door to the case; and Fig. 6.is a plan view of the bottom of the case.
A designates a suitable base, whereon will be placed the case B, the front and sides of which will be of glass held in a frame in the usual manner. -At the bottom of this case will be formed the open space 0, between the base-board c and the top of the main base A. At the outer ends of this base-board seats 0 will be formed in the side rails, 0 and within these seats will be journaled the pivot-pins d of the frame D, which carries the glass of the lower door. Upon the top of the case will be placed the cover E, and above it will be held the supplemental cover E, and in the space between these covers the upper door-frame, F, may freely slide. This door-frame F is provided at its upper corners with the pivot-pins f, adapted to rest within the seats gat the outer edges of the side rails, G, at the top of the frame. From this construction it will be seen that when the upper door, F, is to be opened for the purpose of withdrawing an article from the case it will be first swung outwardly, as shown in Fig. 1, and when brought to a horizontal position will be pushed backwardly into the place formed for such purpose at the top of the case. 7 In this position the glass door will be entirely out of the way of the clerk, and will be protected against all case, the lower door, D, will be swung open, and when brought to a horizontal position will be pushed backward into the space 0, formed at the bottom of the case. If the door be pushed but partly'into this space, it will form a ledge whereon articles may be temporarily placed. A suitable spring-catch, H, may be fixed to one or both of the back bars of the main frame, so as to hold the doors in closed position; or, if desired, locking mechanism may be employed for thispurpose.
Upon the bottom 0 of the case will be fitted suitable rails or lugs, I and I, in which will be formed threaded perforations to receive the set-screws K, carried by the sectional displayframes. These frames consist of the end bars, L and L, suitably connected together and provided at their bottoms with set -,screws adapted to engage with the rails I, and at their tops with similar set-screws for connection with the rails I, bolted to the under side of the top of the case and furnished with threaded perforations for this purpose.
In Fig. 3 of the drawings is illustrated a display-frame adapted to extend across the front of the case, and to be used for exhibiting ribbons and umbrellas. For this purpose the upper part of the frame is provided with the wires M, connected in series to the end plates, m, fixed to the end bars of the frame in such manner as to receive the rolls of ribbon. Beneath these ribbon-sustaining wires extend the wires M, having suitable loops formed thereon to receive umbrellas. If desired, the sectional frame may be constructed to receive ribbons exclusively, if the case is to be used for this purpose alone, or may be so modified V as to receive any kind of article which it is desired to display. Between the rails I and I at the top and bottom of the case extend similar rails, I to which will be connected the end bars of the display-frames at the sides of the case. These display-frames will be constructed in the manner already described, but will be necessarily somewhat shorter.
From the foregoing construction it will be seen that by the use of the removable sectional frames a single show-case may be employed to exhibit at its front ribbons and upon its sides umbrellas, fans, or other articles, and when desired the dealer can readily change rco V the character of the detachable frames to suit posed, of the upper and lower doors'pivotally the purpose for which he may Wish to use the connected thereto to swing outwardly, said case. With each case there may be furnished case being provided at its top and bottom with a number of these detachable display-frames spaces or ways within which the doors may 20 5 suited to sustain articles of various kinds which slide, substantially as described.
the dealer may have occasion to exhibit. 2. The combination, with the show-case, of I am aware that heretofore show-cases have the sectional display-frames comprising vertibeen formed with a back composed of a single cal end bars formed separate from the case and door arranged to slide in Ways beneath the case detachably connected thereto, and provided 25 10 when open, and to such construction there with the wires for holding the ribbon-rolls,
fore, I do not wish to be understood as maksubstantially as described. ing claim. I
Having thus described my invention, what I EDWARD claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Witnesses: 15 Patent, is GEO. P. FIsHER, J r.,
