ALONZO M. MCGrAUG'HEY,- 0F B USSELLVILLE, INDIANA.
DISPLAY-RACK.
' A pplicationled April 24, 1911. .Serial No. 623,110.
Tooll whom if may concern: Be it known that I, ALoNzo M. Md GAUGHEY, a eitizen'of the United States, residing at Russellville, in the county of :54 Putnam and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvement in Display-Racks; and l do declare "the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as -will 1 0 enable others skilled in the art to which it .-appertains to make and use the same.
."Jflhis invention relates to improvements in display racks for mattresses.. {O ne object of the invention is to provide a display rack of this character having. an "improved 'construction and arrangement of 'mattress holding trays and means whereby said: trays are slidably supported to permit the s ame andthe mattress thereon to be 2O drawn out from between other mattresses on therack, thus bringing the desired mattressiri position for advantageously dis- 'playing the same.
Another object is to provide a display rackv which will be simple, strong and durable in eonstruction, and etlicientjin operation and wvhieh `rnay be built lin various sizes t'o="holdany desired number of mattresses.l
Witiliftlieseandptherf objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features ot" construct-ion, eombiration and arrangement of parts as will ne more' fully describedand particulqvly nointedn'out inthe A appended claims.
In the accompanying drfivinufs' lf'igure 1 is aside view of my imp'rmt-d rack; Fig.
' '2 is a vertical transverse section onthe line 2 2 of Fig. 1 showing one of the sides in position for displaying ainattress; Fig. L
is a horizontal section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is an enlarged side view partly in section of a portion of one ot the supporting, postsor standards and one of the sup orting rollers and adjacent end of -the rac frame engaged therewith; and,
Fig 5 is a vertical sectional view on the ,line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
In this embodiment of the invention I provide a main supporting trame 1 comprising pairs of vertically disposed end posts or standards 2, the lower ends ot which are secured to the end cross bars 3 of a base frame, said end he s 3 being col.- nected near their ends by longitudinal side bars 4 as shown. The upper ends of the Speccation of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. v12, 1912.
standards or posts 2 are connected to a top frame comprising lend bars 5 and longitudinal side bars Arranged atintervals on the inner sides of the posts or standards 2 and in line with each other are series of rack support-ing rollers 7, said rollers being revolubly secured to the posts by. means of screws 8. The rollers 7 are preferably provided' on their inner ends with annular flanges 9 and short bosses 10, said bosses engaging-the sides of the posts or standards and thus reducing the friction between the ends of the rollers and the '.standards. Any number. of rollers may b e provided and the same are spaced apart Ato permit a mattress to rest on the racks engaged therewith.
Slidably v'engaged with the 'rollers 7 are mattress supporting racks comprising rectangular oblong frames 11 the sides and ends of which are formed'of channel iron bars preferably braced by diagonally arranged pairs of brace bars 12 ancl'l. T he bars 12 are Apreferably of greater length than the bars 13 and the bars of each pair are preferably arranged parallel with each other as shown, thereby forming a .support for the mattress placed thereon. ln arranging the rack frames 11 in theinain frame 1 the channel iron end bars of the rackI frames are .engaged with the corresponding pairs of rollers onthe opposite end of the main fra-me and are thus slidably supported and adapted to be pulled or pushed laterally in either direction from the frame and to a suiicientextent for displaying the mattress contained thereon. In order Vto limit the outward movement of the frame and thus prevent thefsame from being drawn out of engagement with the rollers when pulffl or pushed from either side of the main frame, I provide stop pins 14 which are inserted through theupper and lower ,sides of the channel iron ends ofthe rack frames adjacent to the side bars thereof or at any position where it is desired to stop the movement of the rack frame. By thus arranging the stop pins 14 the latter will be broughtl into engagement with the rollers when the rack frame has been drawn-to the desired position for displaying the mattress'.
In order to steady the mattress holding frames and to relieve the rollers of part of the strain .occurring to the rack frames when they are drawnout to display a Inattress thereon, I preferably provide a series of'stop plates 15 which are pivotally connected to the inner sides of the standards i in position to engage the upper sides of the ends of -the rack frames as shown. IThe stop pins 15 are pivotally connected to the inner sides of the standards adjacent to the upper edges thereof and on the outer edges of the plates are formed right angular tlanges 16 which engage the outer edges of the standards l and thus prevent the stop plates from swinging inwardly. y
ln using the racks t-he rack frame containing the mattressit is desired to displav is drawn lateralh from on'e side of tlieiiiain frameto the limitof the. movement of the rack frame after which the frames containing the mattress for a suitable distance above the displayed mattress are pushed back in the main frame to the limit of their movement in the opposite direction thus exposing the ,greater part of the dis` played mattress.
From the foregoing descriptionftalen in connection with the accompanying'fdraw ings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood 'without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may 'be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing `any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my iiiventiomwhat I claim is:
1. A 'display rack of the Character described, comprising a main supporting frame, series of supporting rollers revolubly mounted on said main supporting frame, a
seriesV of rack iframes slidably engaged with ally in either direction from the sides of said main frame, means to limit the lateral means to relieve the rollers of strain when play the goods thereon.
2. In a display rack, a main supporting frame comprising pairs of vertically disposed end standards connected at their lower fr stop pins adapted to be. engaged with 7 lms end bars of the rack frames thereby limiting the lateral shifting movement of 'said frames in either direction, stop plates pivotally connected to the standards of said main frame and adapted to engage the upper edges of the end bars of the rack frames1 stop anges formed on said plates, and diagonally arranged brace bars arranged between the end and side bars of said rack frames.
my hand in presence of two subscribing witsaid rollers and adapted to be shifted laten' said rack frames are shifted laterally to dis-' end to a base frame and at their upper ends In testimony whereof I have hereunto set sliding movement of said rack frames, and
