GLOVE AND GLOVE FASTENING.
Patented Oct. 26, 1886 N. PETERS. PhnXo-Lilhugnhher. Wishinglnn, n. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

GLOVE AND GLOVE-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 351,724, dated October 26, 1886.
. l pplicatlon filed Julie 1.), 1886. Serial No. 205.2l6. (No model.)
To aZl whom, it 171.041 concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY URWIOK, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at St. Dunstans, Malvern, in the county of Wor-' cester, England, glove manufacturer, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves, of which the following is a specification. I
The object of the invention is to enable the wearer of a glove to tighten up the glove around his wrist to any extent he may desire.
The glove I form without any front slit at the wrist, but make the glove at the wrist of sufficient width to allow it to be drawn freely onto the hand. To one side of the glove, at the wrist, I secure one end of a band. This band I lead across the front of the glove and pass it through a metallic eye secured to the opposite side of the glove, and then lead the hand back and secure it to a slide which can be drawn freely to or fro along the first-mentioned portion of the band which passes across the glove, if it be itself drawn directly either in the one direction or the other, but which yet will .not shift its position along the band for any strain which may come upon it through the band itself, so that in this way, by drawing the slide either in one direction or the other, the band can be tightened up across the wrist to any extent desired, or can be slackened when the glove is to be taken off.
The drawings annexed show a glove formed in the above manner. a
Figure 1 is a face view 01 the glove. Fig. 2 is a cross section taken through the line 1 1, Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a face view of the metallic slide which I prefer to use.
A is the adj usting band secured at one end, A, to one side of the non-elastic undivided wrist of the glove. I
B is the metallic loop secured to the opposite side of the wrist.
O is the metallic slide by which the band is adjusted, to vary the distance between opposite sides of the wrist. It is formed of a metallic plate having oblong parallel slots cut in it, leaving a number of parallel. bars. The band A is led over thecentralbar, 0, and under the others. It ,is then led through the loop B and back again to the slide 0, and is secured at its end to the central bar, 0.
D D are tabs secured to the end bars, 0, of the slide. The tabs are used for drawing the slide to and fro, either in one direction or the other, as desired.
I do not claim the slide per se, nor the combination of the slide and the adjusting-band, as these are'old; neither do I restrict myselt to the use of the particular form of slide shown in the drawings, as slides of other form might be employed to eti'ect the same object.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention, and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is- 1. The glove having the noirelastic undivided wrist and provided with the adjustingband connecting the opposite sides of the wrist, and the slide by which to adjust the band to vary the distance between the opposite sides of the wrist, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the glove having the non-elastic undivided wrist, of theadj usting-band secured at one end to one side of the Wrist, the loop or eye secured to the opposite side of the wrist, and through which the band passes, the adjusting-slide through which the band passes in crossing the wrist to the loop or eye and to which one end of the band is secured, and the tabs'secured to the slide, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
HENRY URWIOK.
