SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 351,341, dated October 19, 1886.

To all whom'it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN R. ROWLANDS, of Oneida, Madison county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Button, of which the following specification is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to a button having a removable cap, so that the appearance of the button may be readily changed. The inven tion consists in the features of improvement hereinafter more fully pointed out.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure '1. is a bottom view of the cap. Fig. 2 is a top view of the head. Fig. 3 is a side view, partly in section, of the cap; Fig. 4, a section on the line x m, Fig. 2; and Fig. 5, a central section through the button with-the cap in place.

The letter or represents the head of a button, made of suitable form and material, and provided with an annular groove, b, cut into one of its faces. This groove-is bridged or crossed by a pin, 0, as shown in Fig. 4. The cap (I has a central tubular downwardlyprojecting flange,

0, into which a slot, f, is cut. This slot is open at its lower end, and is preferably of spiral form. In use the cap dis placed over the head a in such a way that the flange e is introduced into groove 1). The pin 0 should be directly in line with the mouth of slot/', so that upon turning the cap a short distance the pin is received by the slot, and thus locks the cap to the head. A short reverse turn releases the cap. In this way the cap may be quickly attached and removed. I

The head a is p rovidcd with the usual thread or cable holes for fastenin g the button to a garment.

I claim as my invention- In a button provided with a removable cap, the combination of head a, having groove 1) and pin 0, with the cap (I, having flange e, that is provided with slot f, substantially as specified.
