Description

(No Model.)
, L. BIEHL.
FAN. No. 350,614. Patented Oct. 12,1886.
& WITNESSES: INVEJVTOR shape of paper flowers.
UNITED STATES PATENT Fries,
LORENZ BIEHL, OF NEW YoRK, N. Y.
FAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 350,614, dated October 12, 1886.
Application filed June 9, 1886. Serial No. 204,588. (No model.) 7
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LORENZ BIEHL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fans, of which the following is a specification.
Thisinvention relates to an improved fan of novel construction; and it consists of afan that is provided at the center with acentrally-pivoted disk having projecting cups or buckets that serve to rotate the disk by the fanning motion imparted to the fan.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front elevation of my improved fan; and Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same on line or m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents afan, which is made of pasteboard or other suitable material, and of disk or other shape. The handle B is attached to the body of the-fan A at the back of thesame. The face of the fanA is ornamented in any suitable manner, and provided with'a centrally-pivoted rotary disk, 0, to the face of which are glued or otherwise attached equidistantly from each other-a number of projecting cups or buckets, D, that are preferably made in the The projecting cups or buckets D are arranged in such a manner that they open all in the same direction, so that they can readily catch the air and cause the disk to rotate, either by holding the fan to the breeze or by agitating the samein fanning. The disk 0 is ornamented in keeping with the shape of the cups D, so that in case flowers are used for the cups, leaves and stems are printed in suitable colors on the disk, as shown in Fig. 1. The rotating disk 0 forms a neat, cheap,
and ornamental attachment to the fan in the nature of a pin-wheel attachment, so that the fan can also be used; as a toyi'or children. The space not covered by the disk may also be used in an attractive manner for advertising purposes.
Having thus described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination of a fan with a centrally-pivoted rotary disk having projecting cups or lbuckets on its face, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a fan, of a centrally-pivoted rotary disk having projecting cups on buckets arranged on the-face thereof equidistant from each other, said cups openingin the same direction, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my namein presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LORENZ BIEHL.
