Definitions

  • Another object of this invention is to provide a scrap baling press truck having a pressing trough which is located across the chassis platform of the truck.
  • the open side of the pressing trough is so dimensioned that large pieces of scrap material such as automobiles may be gradually fed into the pressing equipment.
  • a further object of this invention is to provide a scrap baling press truck which is capable of pressing individual sections of large pieces of scrap material such as automobiles. This capability requires relatively small pressing forces and consequently a small dimensioned pressing trough is completely adequate. In addition, lighter duty press plates and hydraulicoperation means are adequate for the apparatus.
  • a still further object of this invention is to provide a scrap baling press truck having folding working platforms arranged at either side of the pressing trough. These folding platforms fold up during transit. These platforms include prop wheel attachments which support them once they are unfolded. The platforms in their folded position form a pathway which includes the pressing trough. This enables large pieces of scrap material to be fed into the pressing trough from the beginning to the end of the baling process.
  • a still further object of this invention is to provide actuating pistons for the press plates below the pressing trough. This necessarily provides a low structure for providing a compactness to the vehicle during transit.
  • a still further object of this invention is to provide a loading crane behind the cab of the truck which has an unrestricted movement during loading. This capability of unrestricted movement is due to the structural characteristics of the baling press equipment into which the large pieces of scrap material are being placed.
  • the particular arrangement of the pressing equipment enables'the structure of the loading crane to have a considerably shorter length than any of the known prior art structures now available.
  • FIGURE 1 is a side elevational view of a truck incorporating the invention of this disclosure.
  • FIGURE 2 is a rear view of the truck incorporating the invention of this disclosure, shown in operating position.
  • a truck made in accordance with this invention includes a chassis 1 mounted on wheels 2 and carrying a drivers cab 3.
  • An open, U-shaped pressing trough 4 leads across the truck platform.
  • The. press plates 6 are mounted on shafts 5 and will fold over the pressing trough 4 as shown by the dash and dot lines of FIG. 1.
  • the pressing plates 6 are fitted with bell-crank type levers 7.
  • the bell-crank type levers 7 are connected to piston rods 8 which are mounted in hydraulic cylinders 10. This forms a plate operating mechanism. This mechanism moves the pressing plate in and out of a scrap pressing position.
  • the piston rods 8 and the hydraulic cylinders 10 are mounted below the pressing trough 4 and anchored by the mounting means 9.
  • Working platforms 13 are hingedly joined to either end of the platform 11 at hinged joint 12.
  • the platform 11 is the base of the pressing trough 4.
  • the platforms 13 When folded out as an extension of the platform 11, the platforms 13 are supported by prop wheel attachments which include wheels 15, support members 14 and hinge joints 18.
  • the platforms 13 thereby provide a straight pathway across the pressing trough 4.
  • the two working platforms 13 When prepared for transit, the two working platforms 13 are folded up at hinged joints 12. This folded position is indicated by the dash and dot lines in FIG. 2.
  • the folding operations include the folding together of the prop wheel attachments around the hinged joint 18.
  • an automobile or other large piece to be scraped is placed on the platform 13 by means of a clamp 17 which is mounted on a loading crane 16 located behind the drivers cab 3.
  • the automobile or other large scrap piece is moved through the pressing trough 4 by the loading crane 16.
  • independent conveyor systems might be installed in the pressing trough 4 or in the working platforms 11 and 13 to assist-moving the automobile or other large scrap piece into the pressing trough 4. Traveling grates are among suitable systems which may be used for this purpose.
  • a truck that has been readied to move may have its full height reduced to about 3.55 meters and its width reduced to about 2.38 meters and a loading platform height of about 1.52 meters.
  • a scrap baling press truck comprising:
  • a scrap baling press truck as defined in claim 1 further including 7 platform means located on at least one side of the pressing trough to support the scrap material as it is passed into the trough for baling.
  • said platform means include a planar structure pivotally mounted at either side of said open-ended trough and a support means hingdly mounted underneath each planar structure to maintain said structures in horizontal line with the bottom of said open-ended trough means.
  • said pressing means include two pressing plates and a separate hydraulic control means connectedto each plate to move said plates in and out of a working position.
  • said pressing plates have a width substantially equal to the width of the truck chassis and include bell crank type levers,
  • said hydraulic control means includes pistons operably 4 r 7.
  • said hydraulic control means includes pistons operably connected to said levers and located below said pressing trough.
