UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY W. CoNvERsE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
OVERSLEEVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 348,618, dated September 7, 1886.
Application filed October 19, 1885.
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known I, HENRY W. CoNvERsE, of Chicago, in the county of Cook, andin the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oversleeves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my device, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same in position upon the arm of a person.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
The object of my invention is to enable the clothing upon the arm of a person to be protected from wear and from being soiled while engaged in writing or other like employment without in any manner hampering the free movements of the arm; and to this end said invention consists in an oversleeve constructed in the manner and for the purpose substantially as hereinafter specified.
In the annexed drawings is shown an oversleeve, A, which has the general form of the lower portion of the sleeve of a garment, and at its upper end, a, is curved to adapt it to the shape of the arm at the elbow. The ends of said sleeve are open, and said upper end, a, is cut away upon an oblique line, as shown.
In use the over sleeve A is drawn over the Serial No. 180,354. (No model.)
arm B of a person, and upon an inside line extends upward to the elbow, while upon an outside line said sleeve extends over said elbow and well up toward the shoulder. The curved form of said sleeve at the upper end adapts it to the form of the arm at such point, and affords perfect freedom of motion to the same. An elastic band, a, secured at its ends to and extending between the edges of said sleeve a short distance above the lower inner side of the opening of the upper end, a, operates to draw said curved portion upon the elbow, so as to confine the article in place.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The oversleeve adapted to protect the elbow as well as the forearm, having its upper portion curved to conform with the curve of the arm at the elbow, and cut away at an angle on its inner side, in combination wit-h the elastic band joining the sides of the cut, sub stantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 15th day of October, A. D. 1885.
HENRY IV. CONVERSE.
