Description

(No Model.)
G. W. RANDOLPH.
COTTON SGRAPBR.
No. 341,688 Patented May 11, 1886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE WASHINGTON RANDOLPH, OF MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE.
COTTON-SCRAPE R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No- 341,688, dated May 11,1886, Application filed December 30, 1835. Serial No. 187,101. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE WASHINGTON RANDOLPH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cotton of parts, substantially as hereinafter described,
and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents an elevation of one side of a cotton-scraper embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 represents an elevation of the scraper-frame, the scraper detached therefrom. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the mold-board detached from its frame. Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 0."- w of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, in which similar letters of reference denote similar parts,A designates the scraper-beam, and B the handles by which the implement is guided and controlled. The drawings show but a portion of the beam, which is of ordinary construction.
D designates the scraper-frame, consisting of an upper plate, d, secured by bolts b to the beam A, inclined standards (1 d and shoe (2 The forward edge of the standards (1 is beveled upon one side,to conform to the scraperblade, (see Fig. 2,) and is, near the bottom of the standard, provided with. a cut-away or recessed portiomd", that extends from the rear side edge, (1 nearly to the forward edge, d, of the standard. I
d designates a rib that extends along the side of the cut-away portion 01* on the forward edge, d of the standard to the shoe d'*, for a purpose hereinafter described.
d designates a slot which extends through the standard d, to receive a bolt, '0, that, in connection with a nut, c, secures the scraperblade 0 to the frame D.
C designates the scraper-blade,formed,preferably,of asingle sheet of metal, shaped similar to the mold-board of an ordinary plow. This blade is provided with a single aperture, 0 to receive a bolt, 0, whereby the blade is secured to the standard (1', and a series of teeth, c formed upon the inside of the blade at a point intermediate of the aperture 0 and the bottom of the blade, that, in connection with the rib d of the standard (1, serve to hold the blade against lateral movement upon the standard.
If desired, the teeth 0 may be formed upon a segment separate from the blade 0, and then secured in any suitable manner to said blade.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that the blade 0 may be secured at different points of vertical adjustment upon the standard 01', and also that it may be swung or adjusted laterally, when its lower edge can be held at different angles of elevation from a horizontal plane, the rib d and teeth 0 serving to hold the blade in the desired angle of elevation.
\Vithout confining myself to the exact form and arrangement of parts herein shown and described as an embodiment of my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a cotton-scraper, a scraperblade provided with a securingpin and a series of teeth, in combination with a supportingframe having a recess, as d, a securing-rib, and a slot for the passage of the bolt 0, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE WASHINGTON RANDOLPH.
