RAZOR. N0. 338,167. PatentedMar. 16, 1886.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEO EHRLICH, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
RAZO R.
SPIECIIE'ICATION fcrming part of Letters Patent N0. 338,167, dated March 16, 1886.
Application filed December E11. 1885. Seria'l N0. 186,341. (N0 model.)
T0 all wh0m i25 mag conceriz:
Be it known thab I, LEG EHRLICH, of the city 0f St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful1mprove menb in Safety-Bazors, 0f whieh the following is a fu1l, clear, and exacb descripbion, referenee being had to Ehe accompanying drawings, forming part 0f tl1is speeificabion, in which- Figure 1 is an under perspective view of the insbrument clo sed up, ready to pub into a. thin case. Fig. 2 is a perspeetive view of the instrumenb, ready f0r use. Fig. 3 is a secbion ab 3 3, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the plat e 130 whioh the blade is attaehed. Fig. 5 is a transverse section, on alarger scale, 0f the blade, the blade-holding plate, and accessories, showing more elearly the space between the contiguous faces of the said blade am]. plaoe.
This inVention relates to that dass of shaving instruments in which a lip 01 guard als Ehe edge of the razor prevents the razorfrom entting ehe skin when shaving.
My invention consists in certain novel feabares, hereinafter fully described in the speci fication, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring t0 ehe drawings, A is a plate, 130 whose mi ddle poinb is hinged a spring-platze, B, which constitutes a latcb, as hereinafber ful1y deseribed. The hinges are show1i ab O.
D is the bladeholding plate, whieh is 0011- nected t0 one end 0f bhe plate A by hinges E.
F is be blade, which has the shape of a razor in a transverse secbion, as shown in Fig. 3. The blade is held in place by 1ips G, which may be formed in one piece wibh the plabe D, as shown, and by a lip,- b, extendi ng from be plalze B over Ehe back 0f the blade When t;he instrument is in posibion for use, as shown in Figs. 2 am]. 3.
Thal; edge, d, of be plate D which is in proximity to the edgef of lahe blade is bent forward and forms a guard, prevenbing the blade fromm cutting tl1e skin. The edge 0f the razorblade has actual bearing against the plate D ab ehe ends; l0ut between the ends bhere is a very narrow space between the side 0f the blade and the plate D, o0 allow the passage between them of bhe whiskers and the lather.
d is an aperture in ehe plate D, through whieh those matters pass and lind lodgment; in the interior of the instrument.
When the insbrument is in its working con dition, the edge of the blade-holding plate D slightest movemenls-that; is to say, of latching the blade-holding plate securely t0 tahe bodyplatein contradistinction to bhose deviees which employ a spring-latch secured ab one end m0 ehe body-p'late, and engaging ab the other oho back 0f the eutting-blade. I am aware of this latter dass 0f deviees, and do not; claim, broadly, any feature 0r features whieh my invention possesses in common there- With.
The 1ear part, A, 0f the plate A is corrugated 0r roughened, 01 scored in some manner, so as t0 give effective hold to the band, thepart A being held by Ehe band wl1en using theTinstrument.
In will be seen that; When the insbrument; is folded, as seen in Fig. l, the bree plates A B D and the blade F are parallel, 0r nearly so, and the instrumenb can then be pub inb0 a very small space.
1 claim 1. The eombination, witl1 the platze Aand Ehe plate D hinged thereo, of the latch-plate B, hinged t0 the platze A and having the lips or lugs embracing bhe edge of t-he plate D between them, as sei; forth.
2. Tl1e combination, with the plate A, the blade-plate D hinged thereto, and tahe blade F, 0f tl1e platze B, hinged 150 the plate A and engaging direcbly with the blade-plate D, and the lug 0r lip b, projeeting from the plate B and engaging Ehe blade F f0r holding it t0 place, substantially as Set forth.
