LADYS UNDERSHIRT SPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 338,024, dated March 16 1886.

Be it known that I, \VILLIAM H. BIL- BROUGH, of Lansingburg, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have invented an Improved Ladys Underslia't, of which the following is a specification.

The special object of the invention is to so improve the bosom-gores in ladies garments which go next to the skin that they may fit more accurately and yet not irritate and chafe the skin.

Figure l of the drawings is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a section through the breast gores to show my flat stitch on the outside. Fig. 3 is a similar view to show the stitch as usually made and bulging on the inside.

In the drawings, A represents the undershirt of Woven fabric, B the bosom gores, O the base-seam, and D the cross-seam. These gores are usually made of a single piece, and the consequence is that they cannot be made to fit snugly and evenly on the bosoms. In

order to overcome this difficulty and secure a perfect fit, I make the bosom-gore in two pieces, so that any desired shape may be given to correspond with that of the bosom itself. This gives the desired fit without any wrinkles and without any fulling in of the seam, both of which are necessary in one-piece gores. As the crossseam D is over the most sensitive part of the bosom, I make ita flat seam on the outside and leave a smooth even surface on the inside next to the skin. The pressure of the clothes on this outside seam, D, is found by practical observation not to be palpably felt on the bosom.

Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-

A ladys undershirt having each of its bosom-gores B B in two pieces,attached to each other by a cross-seam, D, made flat on the outside and smooth on the inside, substantially as shown and described.
