SATGHEL HOLDER.
No. 337,709. Patented Mar. 9, 1886.
WITNESSES IN'VENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARGRET SMITH, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
SATCHEL- HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,709, dated March 9, 1886.
Application filed August 1, 1885.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARGRET SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Satchel-Holders, of which thefollowingis a description.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device applied to a belt. Fig. 2 is a rear view of it, showing the pin for fastening it on. Fig. 3is a rear View of the device, showing a modified means for fastening it to the belt.
The object of my invention is to provide a device for attachment to the garments of a lady for the purpose of conveniently sustaining a satchel, permitting the latter to be readily affixed to and supported thereon or removed therefrom at pleasure.
It consists in the peculiar construction of a holder provided with a hook or pin for attachment to the garment, and consisting of a metal plate having its upper end turned down and provided with a catch, and its lower end turned up, crimped, andprovided with aslot through which the downturned catch is hooked and secured, as will be hereinafter more fully de scribed.
In the drawings, A represents the base or frame plate of the holder, which is made of metal, hard rubber, or other strong elastic ma- Serial No.173f232. (No model.)
terial. This plate is made wide, and is provided on its back with a pin, asshown in Fig. 2, or a hook, as shown in Fig. 3, for engagement with the dress or belt. The upper end of the plate is bent downwardly to form a catch, a, and the lower end, I), of the plate is bent upwardly, and is provided with a slot through which the catch a is fastened. The catch a, I make in the form of an upturned lip, and adapted to engage with a transverse slot formed in a crimp in the upturned end of the lower part, b, of the holder, as shown in Fig. 1. This form of fastening is easily opened or closed, and when closed is securely held against accidental disengagement.
Having thus described my invention,wl1at I claim as new isg A holder for satchels, consisting of a plate, A, having a pin orits described equivalent on its back for attachment to the garment, and having its upper end bent down and turned up to form a hook-shaped catch or lip, and its lower end bent up, crimped transversely, and slotted at the crimp to receive the hook-shaped catch, substantially as described.
MARGRET SMITH.
