LAMP-CHIMNEY CLEANER.

EPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 336,746, dated February 23, 1886.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANDREW S. REIsoR, of Reisor, in the parish of Oaddo and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved Lamp Ghimney Cleaner, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion.

My invention relates to implements for use in cleaning lamp chimneys, globes, and the like, and has for its object to promote economy of time and labor by providing a simple, easily-adjusted, and efiicient device for clamping a paper pad, cloth, sponge, or a mop head of any suitable fabric, so it may be applied conveniently to the inside surfaces of the chimneys or globes to clean or polish them.

The invention consists in a lamp'chimney cleaner comprising a wire bent double and provided with a slip bar or loop, and a clampwire hinged to the bend of the main wire and adapted to be locked on a pad or mop by means of the slip bar or loop, all as hereinafter fully described and claimed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.

Figurel is a perspective view of my improved lamp chimney cleaner with a pad or wad of paper attached and ready for use, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the cleaner with the hinged clamping wire or rod swung open to illustrate the manner of attaching the paper pad to it.

The letter A indicates a wire or metal rod of suitable thickness and strength, which is bent double to form parallel side parts, a c, which are secured at a in a handle, B, for convenience in using the implement.

To the bend of the wire A is hinged by its eye 0 the wire or rod 0, which may be swung down toward and between the side parts, a a, of wire A, so as to clamp the pad or wad of paper D firmly between said wires A G, whereupon a slip-bar, E-or it may be a loop-fitted to the parts a a of wire A, may be slid over the back of the clamp-wire C to lock the paper pad D in place by preventing the clampwire from springing away from the main wire, as clearly shown in the drawings.

The outer portions of the wires A G are (ModeL) and other globular vessels or structures of glass orother material, so that the paper pad I) may be pressed against every part of their interior surfaces for giving them a thorough and quick cleaning and polish, and, as the wires A O are flexible and will bend by side pressure on the handle B, it is evident that the implement is adapted for cleaning straight or cylindrical chimneys as well as curved or globular ones.

The pad D, composed of a number of sheets of paper, will serve well, as when the outer sheets have been soiled they may be torn off, and consequently many chimneys may be cleaned by the same pad, and frequent nnclamping and rcclamping of the wire 0 will be avoided and timewill be saved.

A piece of cloth, or a quantity of tow, or a sponge, or chamoisskin, or any other suitable eleaning or polishing material or fabric may be clamped by the wires, and will serve well every purpose of the paper pad, and may be preferred over the pad at times, as the im plement may be used to hold a mop for cleaning windows, shelves, or floors, and for many other analogous purposes, as will readily be understood.

The handle B is not essential to the successful working of the implement, as the back ends of the side parts, a a, of wire A may be bent back upon themselves to form a handle, or may simply be joined together without bending them in this way; but the wooden handle B, as shown, is preferred.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

Alamp-chimney cleaner comprisinga wire, A, bent doubleto form side parts, a a, a wire, 0, hinged to the outer bend of wire A, and a bar or loop, E, on wire A, adapted to lock the wire 0, clamped upon a pad or mop inserted between wires A C, substantially as herein set forth.
