Description

' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
ERNEST R. -MICHAELIS OF SYGAMORE, OHIO.
HALTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part vof Letters Patent No. 332,271. dated December 15, 1885.
.Application filed September 2Q, 1885. Serial No. 177,802.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ERNEST R. MICHAELIs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sycamore, in the coniity of Wyandot and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Halters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon7 which form a part of this specification.
This invention has relation to improvements in halters; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which Figure lis a perspective view of my halter. Fig. 2 is a face view of the plate B in blank form, and Fig. 3 is a face view of the plate B.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings,A designates the halter, usually constructed of rope and in one piece, and B B indicate two cheek-plates, the former of which is provided with two holes, a a, and the latter, B', is also constructed with two holes, b b, and a slot or elongated hole, c, for a purpose hereinafter set forth. The plate B is provided with the tubular extension f, which receives the end of the rope and firmly holds the same to the plate. It will be observed by reference to the drawings that one end of the rope is secured to the tubular portion of the plate B, thus securing it to said plate. The
opposite end of said rope is then passed through (No model.)
one of the holes b in the plate B' and through the slot c, when it is then turned, leaving the loop portion g, and it is then again passed through the other hole b in said plate, thence across to one of the holes a in the plate B, and then through the adjoining hole a in said plate, and iinally through the loop g, thus forming a halter consisting of the head-piece, cheek-pieces, nose and chin portions, as well as the portion h for securing the animal. It will be seen further that my halter can be adjusted at will to accommodate the heads of different animals, and the plate having the slot is designed to receive the loop portion ofthe rope, and it is simple in adjustment, durable, and at the same time cheap to manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The halter herein described, consisting of the cheek-plates B B,-the latter having the two openings b b and slot c, and the former provided with the holes a a., the rope arranged in the manner shown to form a halter and secured at its end to the cheek-plate B by means of the tubular extension f, the whole constructed and arranged as shown and described.
2. The combination and arrangement of the eheekplates B B', the former provided with the -holes a a and tubular extension f, and the latter with slotc and holes b b in the cheekplate B', and the rope halterportion h,where by the loop g is formed, all constructed as herein shown and specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ERNEST R. MIOHAELIS.
