Description

(No Model.)
S. BIRDSALL.
HITGHING STRAP. Ne. 310,643. Patented Jan. 13, 1885.
WITNESSES Q DTVENTOR ATTORNEYS.
NiTnn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL BIRDSALL, OF SUSQUEHANNA, PENNSYLVANIA.
HITCHING'STRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 310,643, dated January 13, 1885.
Application filed November 11, 1884.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL BIRDSALL, of Susquehanna, in the county of Susquehanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hitching- Straps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
In Letters Patent granted to me June 17, 1884, No. 300,561, a hitching-strap for horses is shown as provided with abrace-strap which is connected by a coupling device that allows the brace-strap to be easily swung to either side.
My present invention consists in a coupling device of novel construction for attachment of the brace-strap, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hitching-strap with my improvement as applied to use. Fig. 2 is a sectional side view, and Fig.
3 is a face view, of the coupling.
The neck-strap A, with its attached tie-strap B, is of usual construction and arrangement. 0 is the brace-strap, made of leather or other suitable material, attached to the tie-strap B by the coupling D. The coupling D consists (No model.)
of two parts-a clasp which is a plate, a, having loops 7) b on its ends, and a T-headed pin or stud, c, on its backand ofa1oop,d,which is pivoted by its shank portion on the stud 0, so that the loop is free to swing. The tiestrap B passes through the two loops 1), and a screw, 6, passed through a hole in one loop and through the strap B, retains the coupling at the desired place. The end of the bracestrap 0 is connected to loop d, and the two straps are thus firmly connected, while the strap 0 is free to swing to either side, according as-the neclcstrap may happen to be put on.
This coupling device is easily adjusted and fixed in any place, as required.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a hitching -strap, the combination, with the strap B and brace-strap O, of the clasp formed with loops 6 and stud c, and the loop d, hung on the stud of the clasp, substantially as described.
2. The coupling device D, provided with pivoted loop (1, combined with the tie-strap B and bracestrap O, substantially as described.
SAMUEL BIRDSALL.
