MOSES ESTEN, OF SLATERSVILLE, RHODE ISLAND.
TRADE-WAGON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 325,596, dated September 1, 1885.
A pplication filed June .27, 18%. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.
Be it known that 1, Moses ESTEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Slatersville, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trade-\Vagons; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invent-ion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, and to letters or figu res of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of perspective view, partly in longitudinal section and partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the receptacle B. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view ofthe same.
My invention has relation to trade-Wagons of the class known as meat and fish wagons; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring byletter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the wagon-body, which isprovided with a meat or fish receptacle, B, which is closed at its forward end by a partition, B, and is provided with a permanenttop, 0, which latter extends from near the forward end back to the forward ends of the curved cleats D I), these cleats being se cured to the inner faces of the sides of the wagon-body A, and extending from points E E a little above the upper edge of the sides of the wagon-body, where they abut against a cross-strip, F.
Vithin the guides or grooves formed be tween the curved cleats D D a flexible slide or door, H, works. This door H is composed of slats I, connected by flexible metal straps M M M which are screwed or riveted to the slats by rivets N, which pass down the horizontal cleats P, and secured to the inner faces of the sides of the box, are the horizontal upper cleats, It Rwhich, together with the horizontal cleats P P, form the horizontal guides for the flexible slat fabric of which the slide or door H is composed.
At the rear edges of the sides of the wag0nbox short vertical cleats S are secured to the inner faces of the box, and serve to guide and hold the lower edge of the slat fabric when the flexible cover is closed. The slats forming the cover are beveled on their edges from above downwardly and inwardly, so that the flexible cover or slide may be extended either in a horizontal plane or may rest in the curved guides to either open or close the cover, as may be desired.
A finger-strip, V, issccurcd to the outer face of the sliding door, by whichto open and close the same. 1
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
The combination, with a covered wagonbody having the partition B, permanent top G, curved cleats l) D,-horizontal cleats R It and P .P, and the short vertical cleats S, of the flexible slat fabric, and sliding door with the finger strip V, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
MOSES ESTEN.
