IMPROYEMENT m POCKET-BOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 173, 12 1, dated February 15, 1 876 application filed December 27, 1875.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, WILLIAM Born, of the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented anew and Improved Pocket-Book, of which the 'following is a specification Y This invention has for its object to produce an improved pocket-book, wherein thesides of two adjoining pockets will be utilized to constitute the bottom of a flat bill-receptacle.
The invention consists in combining the flat bill-receptacle with and forming it of the sides of two adjoining pockets of the pocket-book, and in combining with said two sides a looking device for keeping the bill-receptacle closed between the two open pockets, all as hereinafter more fully described. The letter A represents a pocket-book of suitable or convenient construction, made of leather or equivalent material. The same is provided with two or more pockets, at b c (1, arranged side by side, in the usual manner. Between two of these pockets, 1) and c, the bill-receptacle B is' formed by the twocontiguous sides 0 and f of said pockets. These sides may be made of the same piece of material, or of separate pieces, but are joined directly, or by an intermediate piece, at their lower ends, as shown in Fig. l. The billreceptacle, which is formed by the sides 6 f of and between the pockets, may be provided with suitable side and end flaps, g g and h h, as indicated.
The bill-receptacle can beclosed by a looking mechanism, 0, applied to the upper part of one of the sides 0 f; but this locking mechanism, instead of being a simple clasp pivoted to one of the sidesand looking over the edge of the other side, as in the drawing, may consist of a tongue fastened toone of the sides, and fitting into aslit on the other side, or of other equivalent construction.
I claim as my invention-- In a pocket-book, the flat bill-receptacle B, having side-and end flaps, as described, and formed by the contiguous sides of two adjoining pockets, 1) c, and provided with a locking mechanism, 0, substantially as herein shown and described.
