Description

Aug. 10, 1965 J. K. sElTz MULTI-POCKET WALLET Filed July 18, 196s INVENTOR c/Ese'x/ 5.5/72
United States Patent O 3,199,562 MULTI-PQKET WALLET .loseph K. Seitz, Sunland, Calif. (4551 Coidwater Canyon, North Hollywood, Calif.) Filed .luly 18, 1963, Ser. No. 296,054 7 Claims. (Cl. 150-30) This invention relates to wallets and particularly to wallets having several pockets for carrying various items, such as paper money, identilication cards, credit cards, and the like.
Wallets of different types having multiple pockets are known. The present wallet is economical to construct while providing particularly convenient pockets for various items to be carried therein, the over-all appearance of the wallet being ilat and having a pleasing appearance when iilled. The wallet is of the single fold-over type and has two interior pockets and two exterior pockets, the exterior pockets being provided with safety ilaps having fastening means. Thus, for many frequently used items which can be placed in the exterior pockets, the wallet need not be unfolded to obtain access thereto. Less used items may be placed in the interior pockets. The wallet is constructed of the minimum of sheets or parts to provide the maximum number of full sized pockets.
The principal object of the invention, therefore, is to provide an improved wallet construction.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved construction of a multi-pocket wallet.
A further object of the invention is to provide a multipocket wallet which may be constructed economically.
A better understanding of this invention may be had from the following detailed description when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. l is a perspective view of a wallet embodying the invention;
FIG. 2 is an elevational view of the wallet of FIG. 1 in open position; and
PIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the wallet embodying ing the invention taken along the lines 3-3 of FIG. 2.
Referring, now, to the drawings, a main sheet 5 of leather, plastic, or similar material, extends the full overall size of the wallet when open and has sewn thereto an inner pocket-forming sheet 6. The sheet 6 is attached to the main sheet 5 along threadlines 7, 8, and 9, it being noted that the sheet 6 does not extend to the center fold line of the main sheet 5.
A similar inner pocket-forming sheet 11 is sewn to main sheet 5 along threadlines 12, 13, and 14, the sheet 11 also not extending to the center fold line of the main sheet 5. Thus, when the main sheet 5 is folded, these sheets form two inner pockets of the wallet and only the central portion 15 is folded.
As shown clearly in FIG. 3, two outer pocket-forming sheets 1S and 19 are sewn to two opposite side edges of the main sheet 5 and along a central portion of the main sheet 5 asshown at 21 and 22, thus leaving the central portion 15 free to be folded. The entrance to the pockets formed by sheets 18 and 19 are at the outer edges of the wallet as shown at and 26 in FIG. 3. Since these pockets are on the outside of the wallet, they are closed by respective aps 27 and 28, iiap 27 being shown open but attachable to and detachable from the sheet 18 by the snap fasteners 30 and 31. Flap 2S is similarly attachable to and detachable from sheet 19 by snap fasteners 33. Y
Metal corners 35, 36, 37, and 33 may be used as reinforcing, protective, and decorative elements. As indicated, paper money 40 may be placed in pockets formed by sheet 11 and special credit cards 41 maybe placed in rice the pocket formed by sheet 6. It will be noted that none of the pocket-forming sheets extend to the central line of the main sheet 5, thus permitting easy folding and Without producing a bulgy wallet. Furthermore, the construcv tion of the Wallet uses a minimum of sheets or leaves of either plastic or leather to provide four pockets, thus reducing the cost of manufacture of such a Wallet.
I claim:
1. A multi-pocket wallet comprising a rectangular main sheet adapted to be folded along the central portion thereof, a Iirst pocket-forming sheet attached to one outer edge of said main sheet and along portions of the opposite edges of said main sheet and over less than one-half of the length of said outer edges, a second pocket-forming sheet attached to the other outer edge of said sheet and along other portions of the opposite edges of said main sheet and over less than one-half of the length of said outer edges, a third pocket-forming sheet attached to the opposite side of said main sheet at a certain central portion of said main sheet and along two opposite edges of said main sheet, and a fourth pocket-forming sheet attached to the opposite side of said main sheet along another certain central portion of said main sheet and along said opposite edges of said main sheet, said rst two pocket-forming sheets forming two inner pockets and the other two pocket-forming sheets forming outer pockets when said main sheet is folded.
2. A multi-pocket wallet in accordance with claim 1 in which said pocket-forming sheets are sewn to said main sheet and the entrances to the pockets formed by said first and second-mentioned pocket-forming sheets are adjacent the central portion of said main sheet, and the entrances to the pockets formed by said third and fourth pocket-forming sheets are along opposite outer edges of said main sheet.
3. A multi-pocket wallet in accordance with claim 2 in which a ap is provided over each of the open edges of said outer pockets.
4. A multi-pocket wallet in accordance with claim 3 in I which fastening means are provided for fastening said aps to the respective outer pocket-forming sheets.
5. A multi-pocket wallet comprising a rectangular central sheet, two pocket-forming sheets attached to one side of said central sheet and at the opposite ends of said central sheet and two pocket-forming sheets attached to the other side of said central sheet and along the central portion of said central sheet, the entrances to the pockets formed by said last-mentioned sheets being adjacent the outer edges of said central sheet.
6. A multi-pocket wallet in accordance with claim 5 in which the entrances to the pockets formed by said rstmentioned sheets are adjacent the central portion of said central sheet.
7. A multi-pocket wallet in accordance with claim 6 in which closing iiaps and fastening means therefor are provided for the entrances to the pockets formed by said last-mentioned sheets.
