UNITED STATS Aren't @rrroa CALEB 1). PAGE, OF MORGAN, COLORADO.
HOLDER FOR HlTCHlNG-STRAPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 325,359, dated September 1, 1885,
Application filed December 19, 1884. {No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CALEB 1111mm, of Morgan, lVeld county, Colorado, have invented a new and useful Improvement in 5 HitehingStrap Holders, to be attached to the saddle or any part of a harness or to a ridingsaddle, of which the following is a speeification and description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Figure l is a perspective view of my improved hitching-strap holder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a top view.
Similar letters refer to similar parts tli rough- 5 out the several views.
[lhe object of this invention is to provide a device for holdingthe loose end of a hitchingstrap when not in use, and to obviate the necessity of tying into the rings of the harness or ridingsaddle, thereby bungling it with loops and knots and necessitating considerable labor and annoyance in doing up and undoing;
strong upward pressure in the direction of the teeth T; G, the guard which protects the lower jaw, L, which prevents straps or garments from catching under it, and also prevents the jaw from striking the ends of the teeth T.
It will be seen that from the form and dimensions of the base-plate it can be easily attached to any strap on the harness by means of rivets or screws, and when so attached the hitchstrap can be readily put in place by pressing it against and sliding it along the jaw L under the teeth of the jaw J, where it is firmly held by the upward pressure of the jaw L against the toothed jaw J, and can easily be removed by pressing against the jaw L and slipping it out from under the toothed F jaw J.
and it is intended as an improvement on my 2 v' w 3 Patent- 3'0. 260,099, granted October 10, L882,
and on Patent No. 275 695, granted me April In the drawings, A represents the base-3 plate, by which the device is secured to the harness or saddle, its length being about three and a halt inches, its width sevcn-eighths of an inch. J represents the upper jaw', providcd on the lower side with the teeth T; L, the lower jaw, pivoted at P,and closed by the action of the coil pivotal spring S working in the chamber, as shown, and giving the jaw a i i l l l 1 i Having thus described my invention, what I desire to claim and to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a strap-holding device, the plate A and rigid jaw J, in combination with the spring-actuated pivoted jaw L, limited by the guard G, all substantially as set forth.
2. In a strapholding device, the combination of the base A, provided with the guard G and the rigid toothed jaw J, with the pivoted jaw L, actuated by the coiled spring S, all arranged substantially as set forth, and for the purposes described.
