Be it known that I, SAFFOLD JOSEPH, a citizen of the United States, residing at iifiontgomery, in the county of Montgomery and State of Alabama, have invented new and useful improvements in Knotless Hitching-Reins, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to bitching straps and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.

An object of the invention is to provide a simple hitching strap which when applied to the end rings of a bit and when connected with a post or other iiXed object is adapted to securely hold the animal within the range of the length of the strap.

With the above object in view the structure includes a relatively long strap having a hook connected at one end and a ring slidably mounted upon the same. A ring is connected with the other end of the side long strap and a relatively short strap passes through the said ring. Another ring encompasses the end portions of the said short strap and the short strap is provided at its ends with snap hooks adapted to be engaged with the bit rings.

The device includes a relatively long strap l carrying at one end a snap hook 2 or other securing device. A ring 8 is loosely mounted upon the strap l and a ring 4: is connected with that end of the strap opposite the end thereof to which the snap hook 2 is attached. The ring i and snap hook 2 prevent the rings 3 from becoming detached from the strap l. A relatively short strap 5 passes through the ring i and a ring 6 encompasses the opposite end portions of the strap 5. Snap hooks 7 are connected with the ends of the strap 5 and prevent the Specicaton of Letters Patent.

in use the snap hooks 7 are connected with the rings at the ends of the bit and the short strap 5 lies under the lower j aw of the animal. By slipping the ring` 6 toward the ring fi. the opposite side portions of the strap 5 are brought suiiiciently close together and contact with each other whereby the ring i is held against movement longitudinally of the strap 5. The end portion of the strap l which carries the hook 2 is then passed around a post or other fixed object and the hook 2 is engaged with the ring 3. Should the animal attempt to draw away from the post the ring is drawn toward the same and consequently the parts are tightened in their relative positions. Furthermore it will be seen that the arrangement of the parts is such that when the strap is applied the ring i cannot move from one side of the bit or mouth of the animal toward the other side or end of the bit and consequently the end of the strap l which carries the ring i is held at a proper position under the jaw of the animal and should the animal attempt to pull away from the post the restraining force is transmitted to the bit and bridle as to avoid the tendency of pulling the bit endwise out of the mouth of the animal.

Having described the invention what is claimed is A bitching strap comprising a relatively long strap section provided at one end with securing means and having at its other end a ring, a relatively short strap passing through the ring, a ring encompassing the opposite end portions of the short strap and hooks secured to the end of the short strap.
