Description

(N0 Model.)
I J. MQANARNEY.
ROPE OLAMP.
Np. 468,819. Patented Feb. 16,1892,
QISSZS V 07d 1 m (i W, 9 7
UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN S. MOANARNEY, OF OKLAHOMA, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY.
RO PE-C LAM P.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 468,819, dated February 16, 1892. Application filed March 26, 1891. Serial No. 386,571. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN S. MCANARNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma, in the county of .Oklahoma and Oklahoma Territory, have invented a new and useful RopeOlamp for lIitching-Rings and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
, This invention is an improvement in ropeclamps and the like, and may be especially employed as a hitching-ring.
The objects of this invention are to produce I a ring by the use of which a strap may be fastened or a halter hitched without tying a knot, to produce a hitching-ring by the use of whiclimuch time and labor may be saved in fastening and unfastening horses, and, furthermore, to' produce a simple, inexpensive,an'd useful device for speedily fastening the ends of ropes, straps, cables, and the like for tying bags, tent-ropes, &c.
With these objects in view the invention resides in the various novel details of construction and in the combination of parts hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings,in which I have illustrated my invention and in which like letters and figures of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure l is aside elevation of my improved rope-clamp or hitching-ring, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the same with the end of the rope secured thereto.
In the drawings, A designates the ring or clamp, and B a halter or rope. The ring or clamp A consists of a pear-shaped loop 1 and curved side pieces 2, extending on either side of the neck of the loop and in the same plane therewith. The loop and the side pieces are formed in any convenient manner of a single piece of metal. It will be noticed that the pear-shaped loop 1 has in its neck a V- shaped notch 3. At the end of the loop opposite the notch 3 and the curved side pieces 2 a perfothe rope B, it will cramp the end of the rope beneath the first turn thereof between the sides of the notch 3 and the same will be held firmly. The function of the curved side pieces 2 is to guide the loops of the rope and to restrain them from slipping over the end or neck of the pear-shaped loop.
Instead of fastening the rope to the ring, as
above described, the rope may be bent upon itself and the loop thus made to pass through the ring, down over the curved ends, and then tightened. The tie will be the same as above described. I
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The herein-described improved rope-hitching device, the same formed of a single solid piece of metal and consisting of the pearshaped shank having a correspondinglyshaped opening, the inner ends of the sides of the shank being converged to form a solid rigid neck and merged into the laterallycurved side pieces disposed at opposite sides of the neck, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN S. McANARNEY.
Witnesses: I
F. X. BEIDLER, WM. MACKIE.
