Description

No. 749,726. V PATENTED JAN. 19, 1904. B. J. PENN. HITGHING STRAP.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. 9, 1903. N0 MODEL.
I will! 6 Ma b -----mn||| we hmoaeo Patented January 19, 1904.
PATENT ()EFICE. I
EDWARD J. FENN, OF NEW DECATUR, ALABAMA.
HlTCHING-STRAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 749,726, dated January 19, 1904.
Application filed October 9, 1903.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. FENN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Decatur, Morgan county, Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hitching-Straps, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an improvement in hitching-straps, and has for its object to provide a device which can be readily connected at one end to the harness of the animal to be hitched and have its other end securely fastened to a post or other object, regardless of the diameter of the latter.
Figure 1 is a view of a hitching device constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the parts in the positions occupied when the device is in use. Fig. 2 isa view of the device with its parts in the positions occupied when not in use.
Referring to the drawings, in both figures of which like reference characters indicate corresponding parts, 1 designates a strap or band to one end of which is secured a snap-hook 2 or other means by which the strap can be connected to a harness. A buckle 3 is secured to the strap by a leather slide, having a portion 4 extending about the strap and permitting the buckle to be adjusted longitudinally thereof. The loop 4 of the leather buckle-slide is of such form and size as to permit the slide and buckle to move freely over that portion of the strap or band 1 in which are formed a plurality of holes 5 of a size permitting the passage of the tongue of the buckle therethrough. Between the said apertures 5 and the end of the strap to which the hook 2 is attached the strap is increased somewhat in width, and when the buckle-slide is so adjusted as to engage such wider section 6 of the strap it will beheld stationary on the strap and cannot be moved from such position without the application of an appreciable amount of force.
In using the hitching device the snap-hook 2 is engaged with a suitable part of the harness, and the free end of the strap is passed around the post or the object to which the ani- Serial No. 176,380. (No model.)
mal is to be hitched and through the buckle 3. The tongue of the buckle is engaged with the proper hole or aperture 5 and passed through a guide 7 on the top of the leather slide, by which the buckle is carried. It will be apparent that the device can thus be securely fastened to posts of difierent diameters and that any strain or pull exerted on the strap will act to more securely bind it to the post.
When not in use, the buckle-slide can be adjusted on the strap until it engages the wider section 6 thereof, in which position it will be held from accidental displacement, even if the free end of the strap is disengaged from the buckle.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
1. The herein-described hitching device,
consisting of a strap or band adapted to be connected at one end to the animal to be hitched and having a portion thereof increased in width, and a fastening device connected to said strap or band by a slide that is movable over the relatively narrow sections of said strap and will be held from movement when engaged with the wider section thereof.
2. The herein-described hitching device, consisting of a strap or band having a plurality of apertures formed therein and adapted "to be connected at one end to the animal to be hitched, said strap being increased in width between said end and the series of apertures formed in its body, and a buckle secured to the strap by a slide that is movable freely over the apertured part of the strap, whereby the tongue thereof can enter either of said apertures, and said slide is adapted to be held from movement when engaged with said wider section ofthe strap.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDWARD J. FENN.
