A. L. HILL. HAME TUG.
No. 322,934. Patented July 28, 1885.
FIG:
A. I .H I
witnwms N PETERS. WWI, Wilhingtun, D- c.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
ANDREW L. HILL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
HAME-TUG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 322,934, dated July 28, 1885.
Application filed December 13, 1884. (No model.)
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that-I, ANDREW L. HILL, a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame-Tugs,
of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as hereinafter set forth and claimed. I
In the drawings accompanying and forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents my device in perspective. Fig. 2 shows the construction of my box-loop. Fig. 3 is an edge view of my draft-iron. Fig. 4 is a plan or face View of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a plan or face view of my shield, and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a detachable end of the draft-iron.
a represents the shield or fender.
a a are elongated openings in the upper or outer portion of the fender.
bis the customary opening through the end of the fender.
c is the box-loop provided with outwardlyextending flanges c c.
d is an opening in the upper or outer portion of the fender to permit the draftiron to protrude therefrom.
c 6 represent a bifurcated hook on the end of the draft-iron.
f represents the draft-iron provided with the customary curved extension f and detachable plate 9.
h is a slot in the draft-iron, which receives 5 the pin g on plate 9.
i is a rivet-hole in the draft-iron.
The fender is composed of two pieces of leather stitched together at their edges.
The box-loop is provided with flanges that project outward between the two layers of 0 fender in such a manner as to be secured by the same seam that completes the fender.
The part g is detachable from draft-iron f.
The fender is first formed with the box-loop stitched in, after which the draft-iron f is in- 5 serted from the front and plate 9 slid into position through opening d.
This completes the tug ready for sale to the dealer, who can complete the same by rivetingf to the hame in the customary manner by placing a suitable buckle in hooks e e, and by riveting through hole 2.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, in a hame-tug, of draft- 5 5 iron f, provided with slot h, and plate g, provided with hooks e e and ping, as and for the purpose set forth. v
'2. The combination of fender a, provided with openings a a and d, box-loop 0, provided with outwardly-extending flanges c c, and draft-iron ff 9 e e, as and for the purpose set forth.
ANDREW L. HILL.
