NITED STATES HENRY FLETCHER FORDHAM,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF GREENPORT, NEW YORK.
WIRE FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 321,204, dated June. 30, 1885.
Application filed March 6, 1855. (No-model.)
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY FLETCHER FORDHAM, of Greenport, in the county of Suffolk and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire Frames, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to the construction of frames with wires that radiate from a central point; and the invention consists, principally, in holding the ends of the wires with a tube and wedge, key, or rivet, as hereinafter described.
The invention also consists of the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of a Wire frame to be used as a table-mat made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of a circular frame or wheel made in A represents the radiating wires composing the body of the frame, which wires are folded and their ends bent toward each other to form the hooks a a, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The hooks a are placed in the ring, tube, ferrule, or sleeve B, and are held therein by the rivet O, which is by preference made slightly tapering to have a binding action, and is headed in the sleeve B upon the hooks a, so as to hold them firmly in place in the tube.
In theform of frame shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the outer ends of the wires A are bent to form the recesses or loops b, and the wires are held equidistant from each other by the cor- 4o wires are held very firmly at the center of the frame, and the frame is very cheap, strong,
I and practical.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A frame composed of the wires A, bent to form hooks or, held by the tube or ferrule B and rivet or key 0, substantially as described.
2. The wires A, folded and bent to form the books a, in combination with a ring, B, and rivet or key 0, the wires A being held at their outer-ends bya surrounding ring, substantially as described.
HENRY FLETCHER FORDHAM.
