Description

B. W. MY EB S'.
Stools.
Patented Aug. 3,1875.
INVENTD H.
NITED STATES PATENT QEEIoE.
R. WESTBROOK MYERS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOOLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,402, dated August 3, 1875; application filed September 17, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, R. WESTBROOK MYERs, of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stools; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a side elevation of my improved stool, and Fig. 2 is a vertical central section thereof through the dotted line a; w of Fig. 1.
Corresponding parts in the two figures are denoted by like letters.
This invention relates to a certain improvement in stools; and it consists of a socketed seat-standard poised upon and inclosing a pintle secured to the floor, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
1n the annexed drawing, A refers to the seat of the stool, made with or separate from, and attached in any known way to, the standard B, which may be turned to cover any desired configuration, to beautify and give it a finished appearance. The standard B is provided in its lower end with a socket, c, to receive a pintle, (1, attached to or formed upon the base-piece D, fastened to the floor by screws, or in any other known way.
The pintle (I may be cut with a screw-thread, and a thimble inserted in the socket c, which may be also threaded to receive the pintle when formed into a screw.
My improvement can be used'with advantage in stores, as, instead of having to unscrew the seat-standard from the floor, or to leave it in the way, when it is desired to Wash the floor, it (my stool) can be readily and quickly removed by simply lifting it from the pintle and base.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A storestool having its standard B flaring at its lower end b, to cover the piutle-base 1), and provided with a socket to receive the pintle cl, upon the ends of which the stool is supported and revolves, the flange b being s'ufficiently broad to support the stool when removed therefrom, suhstantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I herewith affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
B. WESTBBOOK MYERS.
