Description
AC. A. SCHINDLER.
improvement in Piano-Stoolsmnima:
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
CHARLES A. SCHINDLER, OF WEST HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN PIANO-STQLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 130,247, dated August 6, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Back for Piano-Stools, invented by CHARLES A. SCHINDLER., of West Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey.
`consists in the back for piano-stools constructedl and applied to the stool as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents the seat of the stool, which is,
constructed, attached to a pedestal or feet, and upholstered in the ordinary manner. To the rear part of the seat A of the stool are attached the lower ends of two iron rods B. The lower ends of the rods B are bent forward to cross the top flange of the seat-frame A, are then bent downward across the inner edge of said rim, and are secured rmly in place by Screws. The rods B are bent into some graceful shape, and to their upper ends is attached the back-rest C, the forward side of the said back-rest being upholstered in the same manner as the seat A. In the space between the seat A, rods B, and back-rest C is placed an ornamental device or center piece, D, which may be made in the form of a harp, as shown in Fig. 1,01' in any other desired form, and which is secured to the seat-frame A and backrest C.
The iron rods B are designed to give strength to the back, and enable it to have the requisite strength, and at the same time to be made sufficiently light to avoid all appearance of clumsiness, which could not be it' the back were made wholly of wood.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of seat A, rods B, backrest C, and center piece D, as and for the purpose described.
CHARLES A. SCHINDLER.
