IMPROVEMENT IN SEATS OR BACKS OF CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.
141,374, dated July 29, 1873; ap lication filed January 18, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD W. MYERs,
. residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Seats or Backs for Chairs, of which the following is a specification:
In the drawing, Figure 1 represents a perspective, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal vertical sectional, view of a chair embodying my improvement.
Like letters of reference in both of the figures are used in the designation of corresponding parts.
The nature of this invention consists of a seat or back for a chair or other article of furniture for sitting or recumbent purposes, composed of alternate layers of veneer and paper, or vice versa, which may be perforated to cover any desired configuration or design, and conformed to suit the contour of the body of the occupant, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
A A A refer, respectively, to a layer of veneer, paper, and veneer, as constituting or 1 composing the seat, and which are glued or otherwise suitably united together. A viceversa arrangement of the layers can be adopted and the object of my invention carried out. The seat is adjusted upon its frame B by nails or otherwise, and which, in turn, is fastened to the legs 0 (l in the usual way. The seat may be perforated to cover any desired configuration or design. D is the back, which is of like construction, and fastened in place the same as the seat.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i A seat or back for a chair or other article of furniture for sitting or recumbent purposes, composed of alternate layers of veneer and paper, or vice versa, substantially as shown and described.
