W. s. F. DILLON. CLOTHES RUBBING PAD.
Patented June 23 INVENTUH N. PETERS, Pholo-Lhhugnphur. Wamin xm. 0.6.
NrrEn STATES VILLIAM S. F. DILLON, OF MADEIRA, ASSIGNOB OF ONE-HALF TO \VILLIAM E. ARNOLD, OF MADISONVILLE, OHIO.
CLOTHES-RUBBING PAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,856, dated June 23, 1885.
Application filed April 10,1884.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, XVILLIAM STENNETT Fonnvcn DILLON, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, and a resident of Madeira, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a Clothes-Rubbing Pad,to protect the back and joints of the fingers and the wrist of those employed in washing clothesin the ordinary way; and I do declare that the following specification, with accompanying drawings and explanatory references, clearly and accurately describes the invention.
Figure l is an elevation of the back of an open hand, showing my improved washing device attached across the back of the fingers and inner part of the wrist longitudinally. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the inside of a closed hand, showing my device as it is attached in its operating position. Fig. 3 is a broken or sectional elevation of the rubber on an open hand, showing a modified form of that part of my invention which is used over the fingers. Fig. 4 is an enlarged broken perspective View of one finger-section of the rubber shown in Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the inner face of the finger-pad shown in Figs. 1 and 2, with the attachingstrap removed.
The under face of finger-pad B has beds or cavities which conform to theformation of the back and joints of the fingers. The under face of the wrist-pad A is also made to conform to that part of the wrist and palm on which it rests.
A, Fig. 2, represents the wrist-pad; B, the knuckle or finger pad of the preferred form. a b are the rubbiugsurfaces. The two pads are connected together by strap 0, that extends over and across the back of the hand, and by a thumb-loop. The pads are readily buckle.
(No model.)
B, Fig. 5, represents a loop or strap on the inner side of the fingerpad, under which the fingers are passed, and 0 represents the cavitics.
D represents the sectional finger-pad, orpad B in a modified form.
D is a flexible extremity, which is attached to the hand by strap 0 and loops or rings (1 for the fingers.
E represents loops or eyes by which to seon re the strap 0 to the pads A and B. The rubbing-surfaces ot' the pads may be attached to flexible or non-flexible backing. The backing of the pads may be cast or stamped of brass, with loops E and beds or cavities 0. They may be made also with their backing and corrugated surfaces of one material throughv out. If made all of rubber, the pads are compressed in suitable molds. This is a useful improvement. The pad B across the back of the fingers is out of the way, and the operator can open and close the hands at will to grasp the clothing or use the soap.
The washing with this device can be facilitated and expedited, as a greater pressure can be exerted upon the clothes, the fingers and wrist being protected.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a clothesrubbing pad, the combination, with the finger-pad B, provided with a loop, B, of the Wrist-pad A, detachably secured to the hand of the operator by strap 0, substantially as herein set forth.
WILLIAM s. F. DILLON.
