UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS EVEN, OF JEFFRIESBURG, MISSOURI.
PLOW ATTACHM ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 318,241, dated May 19, 1885.
Application filed September 15, 1884. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs EVEN, of J effriesburg, in the county of Franklin and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Plows, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descIip-.
tion, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which Figure l is a perspective View of a plow with my improvement applied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged top view of the post-attaching device, showing part of the beam. Fig. 3 is a side view of same. Fig. 4 is a bottom view of same. Figs. 5 and 6 are sections taken on lines 5 5 and 6 6, respectively, Fig. 3, and Fig. 7 is a detail section taken on line 7 7, Fig. 4.
My invention consists in features of novelty, hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the post, and B the beam of an ordinary plow.
Formed upon or secured to the upper end of the post is a plate, 0, upon which the beam simply rests, and is held at one end by a U- .shaped clip, D, and at the other end by a threaded bolt, I, passing through a transverse slot, J, in the plate and through the beam. It has a head on its lower end, bearing on the plate on each side of the slot, and a nut on its upper end, as shown. At each end of the slot are lugs or ears L on the plate, between which fits a screw-threaded bolt, N, that passes through the head of the bolt I. It has a head,
0, on one end, anda nut, P, on the other end, both of which are outside the lugs or ears. By
turning this bolt it will be seen that the outer end of the beam will be moved laterally relative to the plow-body, and the plow thus made to take more or less furrow, as desired. The beam moves on the plate 0 independent of the standard or post, the clip D being its fulcrum. When the bolt is turned,it is held in place by the jam-nut P, which may be locked in position by a transverse pin, T, passing through the outer end of the bolt.
The clip may be held on the plate by a lip, U. (See Figs. 3, 4, and 5.)
Fitting over the upper ends of the clip and bolt I is a top plate, V, held in place by nuts W.
By the use of my attachment the beam is not weakened as it is in the ordinary manner of attaching it to the post, as there is only one small bolt-hole through it, and at the same time it is very substantially secured to the post.
I claim as my invention- In a plow, in combination with the post and beam, the plate formed upon'or secured to the post, clip for holding the beam on one end of the plate, bolt for holding the beam upon the other end of the plate, its lower end fitting in aslot in the plate, and the threaded bolt passing through the head of the first-mentioned bolt and fitting between lugs on the plate, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
LOUIS EVEN.
In presence of-- AUGUST EVERT, EMIL MANTELS.
