SIMON IV. SOLOMON, OF AINSWORTH, NEBRASKA.
CULTIVATOR BLADE AND STANDARD ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 695,178, dated March 1 1, 1902.
Application filed June 18, 1901- Serial No. 65,064. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SIMON W. SOLOMON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ainsworth, in the county of Brown and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Cultivator Blade and Standard Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved cultivator blade and standard attachment adapted to be used on an ordinary cultivator-plow, and especially designed for use in cultivating listed crops; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a cultivator blade and standard attachment embodying myimprovements. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, partly in section, through the shank and showin g the latter secured on the cultivator-standard. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on a plane indicated by the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, the standard being omitted. Fig. 4: is a detail sectional view taken through the shoe and the cultivator-blade and showing the curved adjusting-slot in the shoe.
In the embodiment of my invention I provide a shank 1, which is preferably semicylindrical in cross-section and is provided at its lower end with a foot 2, in which on its outer side is a transverse semicylindrical groove 3, the face of which is longitudinally grooved and ribbed, as at 4;. The shank 1 is adapted to be disposed on the front side of a cultivator-standard of usual form, as at a, Fig. 2, and is provided at asuitable distance from its upper end with a transverse slot 5 to receive a projection 6 on the front side of the standard, and thereby lock the shank against vertical movement on the standard. Said shank is provided with grooves 7 above and below the slot 5. As shown in Fig. 2,
clip-bolts 8 bear in said grooves and secure the said shank to the standard. By this means the shank may be adjusted axially on the standard in such manner as to dispose the foot 2 obliquely to the line of draft at any desired angle.
A shoe 9, which is of the form here shown,
is provided on its rear side with a semicylindrical head 10, which is adapted to fit in the groove 3 of foot 2 and is correspondingly grooved and ribbed. A bolt 11 connects the shoe 9 to the foot 2, and the said shoe is provided with an adjusting-opening 12, through which the said bolt passes. By this construction, as will be understood, the shoe may be secured at the lower end of the shank and disposed in any desired position, either vertical and parallel with the shank or at any desired inclination. At one end of the shoe are adjusting-openings 13. At the opposite end thereof is a curved adjusting-slot 14. The cultivator-blade 15, which is of the form here shown, is disposed on the front side of the shoe 9 and secured thereto by a bolt 16 in one of the openings 13 and a bolt 17 in the slot 14. By this means the cultivator-blade may be disposed in any desired position on the shoe and set so as to run level or in an inclined position when the same is to be used in cultivating listed crops.
Having thus described my invention, I claim-- 1. The combination of a cultivator-standard, a shank secured thereto and adapted to be turned thereon, said shank having a transverse semicylindrical groove at its lower end,
on its outer side, a shoe having a semicylindrical head on its rear side, engaged in said groove, means to secure said shoe to said shank and a cultivator-blade secured to said shoe, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a standard having a stud on its front side, of a semicylindrical shank on said standard and adapted to carry a cultivator-blade, said shank having a transverse slot to receive said stud, and a transverse groove, and a clip-bolt bearing in said groove, and embracing said standard, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
SIMON W. SOLOMON.
