UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH J. VALTON, OF NEVARK, NEW JERSEY.
CUSPIDOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,251, dated May 5, 1885.
Application filed November 10, 1884.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. WAIfroN, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ouspidors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked there on, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of Inyimproved cuspidor. Fig. 2 is a dianietrical section through the same. Fig. 3 is a diametrical section of the case which incloses the receiving cup or vessel.
This invention relates to cuspidorsand it consists in certain novel improveme s whereby they are more easily and cheaply constructed, and more easily cleaned, as will' be fully understood from the followingffdescription, when taken in connection with the anneXed drawings.
The external contour of my spittoon or cuspidor is like that in common use-namely, a globular 0r swelled body,'A, and an upwardly-flaring or funnel-shaped mouth B. This constitutes the case of the device, which is. provided with a removable dished cover, O, having a hole, c, centrally through it. The bottom of this case curves inward and upward, leaving a central circular opening surrounded by a supporting-edge, Z).
(No model.)
D designates a cylindrical receiving-cup, which is surrounded at its upper end by a iiaring iiange, d. This cup is of greater diameter than that of the aperture a through the cover C, and the daring iiange d of the cup rests lupon the annular shoulder e at thejunction of the body and flaring mouth of the external case.
The case, and also the cup, may be made of earthenware. stoneware, metal, paper, or of any other suitable material.
Having described my invention, I claiml. The combination of the outer case, A, having an openbotto1n globular body, a contracted neck, and a flaring mouth, with an iuternal cup, also having aiiaring mouth, and a centrallyperforated dished cover, all substantially as described.
-2. Asa new article of manufacture, a cuspidor consisting of an external body or case having an open upturned bottom, a aring mouth, and a neck forming a supporting shoulder, in combination with an internal vessel having aiiaring upper end and a dished and centrally-perforated removable cover, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH J. VALTON.
