UNITED* STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB PFND, OF LA GROSSE, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN CUSPADORES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 178,025, dated May 30, 1876; application iled April 20, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB PFUND, of La Crosse, in the county of La Grosse andv State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spittoon, ot' which the following is a specication:
My invention relates `to cuspadores; and it consists in the construction and arrangement ofa base and a cuspadore removably placed in the same, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to. describe its constructionand operation, refer. ring to the annexed drawings, which form a part ot' this specification, and in which- Figure l is a side View. Fig. 2 is a Vertical sectional view through the cuspadore and base.
A represents the base for my cuspadore, which base may be struck up of sheet metal, or otherwise formed ot paper or any other suitable material. AIt is made in circular form, with its center raised, as shown, and its outer edge corrugated. Base A has no bottom, but
rests upon the door at its edges, where it may be provided with a rim, it' desired. In the raised center ofthe base is a circular aperture, around which is a downwardly projecting flange, a, as shown; I
The' cuspadore is formed of a cylindrical body, B, closed at the bottom, and` provided at its upper edge with a flaring top or mouth,
O. The bodyB should be of such diameter as to t snugly in the central aperture and iange ,of the base, and of such height relative to the base that when inserted therein the cuspadore will rest on the door. When not necessary to clean the base the cuspadore can be lifted out of the same, taken out to be emptied and cleaned, and returned to its place again.
The cuspadore and base may be made per- Y tectly plain, or more or less ornamented, as desired, according to the taste or fancy of the manufacturer and purchasers.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is f l. The bottomless base A, raised in the center and provided with a central aperture, the flange a, or its equivalent, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. A cuspadore formed of a cylindrical body, B, and ila-ring top or mouth C, in combination with a bottomless base, A, having a central aperture, through which the body is passed, and resting on the floor, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses. f
JACOB' PFUND.
