GUSPIDOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL POLYACSKO, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at East Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuspidors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to cuspidors, and the objects of my invention are, first, to furnish a cuspidor with positive and reliable means, in a manner as will be hereinafter set forth, for preventing the contents thereof from being spilled when the cuspidor is accidentally tilted or upset; second, to provide a cuspidor with a novel form of check valve; third, to provide a cuspidor that can be easily and quickly cleaned and maintained in a sanitary condition; fourth, to provide a cuspidor that can be advantageously used in hotels, depots and public places where cuspidors are liable to be upset by pedes trians; and fifth, to accomplish the above results by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a cuspidor in accordance with this invention, showing the same in an upright position. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the same in a tilted position. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detailed sectional view of the cuspidor, and Fig. 4.- is a plan of a portion of the same.
A cuspidor in accordance with this invention comprises substantially a spherical receptacle 1 having a flat bottom 2, and the upper end thereof provided with an opening 3. The top of the receptacle adjacent to the opening 3 is provided with a plurality of equally spaced bayonet shaped vertical lugs 4, and these lugs are adapted to extend through slots 5, provided therefor in the peripheral flange 6 of a funnel shaped deflector 7 extending into the receptacle 1 and Specification of Letters Patent.

having the bottom thereof provided with an opening 8. The deflector 7 is preferably made of rubber and adjacent to the opening 8 has oppositely disposed flap valves 9 adapted to close the opening 8, as best shown in Fig. 2.
Mounted upon the flange 6 of the deflector 7 is the annular flange 10 of a funnel shaped mouth-piece l1, and said flange having slots 12 to receive the lugs 4c, and when said mouth-piece is shifted the lugs 4 are adapted to lock the flanges 6 and 10 upon the receptacle. Since the funnel shaped mouth-piece 11, and the funnel shaped deflector 7 are detachably mounted upon the receptacle 1, these two elements can be easily and quickly removed when it is desired to cleanse the interior of the cuspidor.
The deflector 7 in conjunction with the receptacle 1, provides an annular compartment 12 in the upper part of the receptacle, which receives the contents of the cuspidor when the same is tilted or upset.
What I claim is A cuspidor comprising a receptacle having a flat bottom, bayonet shaped equally spaced lugs carried by the top of said receptacle, a depending funnel shaped deflector arranged in said receptacle and having the lower end thereof provided with an opening, oppositely disposed liap valves formed integral with said deflector and adapted to close the opening thereof, an annular slotted flange carried by said deflector and mounted over the lugs of said receptacle, a funnel shaped mouth-piece mounted upon said receptacle, and an annular slotted flange carried by said mouth-piece and adapted to engage said lugs to retain said mouth-piece and the flange of said deflector upon said receptacle, substantially as and for the purposes herein specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
PAUL POLYACSKO.
