To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH ORsZAG, a subject of the King of Hungary, residinoat Ashtabula Harbor, in the county of Aszlita bula and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guspidors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to cuspidors, and the object of my invention is to provide a cuspidor with concealed means for preventing the contents thereof from being spilled when the cuspidor is accidentally tilted or upset.

I attain the above object by providing the funnel shaped mouth-piece of a cuspidor with a depending sleeve containing a plurality of deflectors, which are adapted to allow spittle and other matter to enter the cuspiidor, but preventl the matter from leaving the cuspidor through the sleeve, before the cuspidor can be placed in an upright position after once being tilted or upset.

The detailed construction entering int-o my invention will be hereinafter described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing forming a part of this specification, wherein there is illustrated a vertical sectional view of a cuspidor constructed in accordance with my invention.

The cuspidor comprises a bowl shaped receptacle consisting of a bottom section 1 and a top section 2, the upper edge of the bottom section 1 being bent or reamed inwardly to provide an annular shoulder 3 and a bead t serving functionally as a seat for the lower reamed edge 5 of the top section 2, these two edges being soldered or otherwise secured together. The bottom section 1 is provided with a central depressed portion 6 which is adapted to form a substantial base for the cuspidor.

The top section 2 is provided upon one side with an opening 7 adapted to be closed by a pivoted lid 8 arranged upon the outer side of the top section, said lid being normally maintained in a closed position by a conventional form of spring 9, which is preferably arranged at the pivot point 10 of t-he lid 8. Through the medium of the opening 7 the contents of the cuspidor can be removed and the interior thereof cleansed.

The top section 2 is formed integral with a central funnel shaped mouth-piece 11, which has the apex thereof provided with a depending sleeve 12 adapted to extend into .the bottom section 1. Located in the sleeve 12 and formed integral therewith isa plurality of inclined partitions 18 and 14, the partition 14 being located between the partitions 13 and disposed at a reverse angle to said partitions. The partitions 13 at their lowermost points are provided with openings 15, and the partition 14 at its lowermost point is provided with an opening 16. On account of the inclination of the three partitions, the opening 16 of the central partition is oppositely disposed relative to the openings 15. In providing these parti.

tions a staggered or sinuous path is provided for the spittle or matter adapted to enter the cuspidor, and it is through the medium of these partitions that the contents of the cuspidor cannot be ejected when the cuspidor is accidentally tilted or upset.

The cuspidor in its entirety is made of light and durable metal and it is preferable to cast the top section 2 and the parts formed integral therewith.

Having now described my invention what I claim as new, is

1. A cuspidor comprising a bottom section, a top section fitted thereon, said top section having an opening formed therein, a lid carried by said top section and adapted to normally close said opening, a funnel shaped mouth-piece carried by said top section, a depending sleeve carried by the apex of said mouth-piece and adapted to extend into said bottom section, and angnlarly disposed partitions arranged in said sleeve, some of said partitions being disposed at a reverse angle to the other partitions and each of said partitions having an opening formed therein, substantially as described.
