RECEPTACLIE FOR HoLolNc TOBACCO-ASHES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 589,152, dated August 31, 1897. Application filed February 10, 1897. Serial No. 622,871. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 'I, FRANCIS ROBERT BAKER.
I is a specification.
This invention consists of the herein-described improvements in receptacles for holding tobacco-ashes and like refuse. By my invention tobacco-ashes or like refuse are taken to the bottom of the receptacleout of sight, and the receptacle also serves as an advertising medium.
I will describe my invention by referring to the accompanying drawings, on which Figure l is a perspective view ofmy invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 show two parts of the same separately and in perspective.
The same letters of reference indicate the sameor corresponding part-sin all the figures of the drawings. I
In carrying out my invention I provide a receptacle A, which is by preference made of metal, or, if desired, made of wood-or other suitable'material, and is in the form of an open-topped trough section-box.
Instead of a lid I provide a paddle-wheel or fan B, made with any convenient number of blades-say six, as shown on my drawings, and marked, respectively, bb b b b b -connected to the two-end disks 6 b through which the ends of the axle b protrude, so as to rotate inthe slots a a which are formed in the ends a a of the box A. The paddle thus closes the top of the receptacle or box A, and when any cigar-ashes or the like are placed on the paddle between the blades and the paddle is rotated the said ashes will be deposited in the bottom of the box A out of sight. The blades b'b b 6 11 b of the paddle may, and by preference are, used as advertisements, which will constantly change. as the paddle is rotated and they may be made of metal, wood, cardboard, or other suitable material.
When it is desired to clean out the box A, the paddle-wheel B can be lifted clear away and the receptacle be emptied. It will be evident that the shape of the open-topped box-like receptacle A may be varied without departing from the nature of my invention.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the open-topped boxlike receptacle A, for the reception of tobaccoashes or the like, and the paddle B having radiating blades forming receptacles and adapted to close the open top of said boxlike receptacle and having its axle ends supported thereby so as to rotate and deposit the tobacco-ashes therein all substantially as hereinbefore described and illustrated by the I accompanying drawings.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
FRANCIS ROBERT BAKER.
