Between said annular bodies 28 and 29 and distributed over the circumference thereof are a plurality of permanent magnets 30 which cooperate with permanent magnets 31 connected to the wall of the balloon restrainer can 32, which latter is connected to the machine frame F and is stationary. The cooperation of the magnets 30 and 31 bring about that the cone-plate 27 will be at a standstill, with the result that also the cylinder body 17 forming the carrier for bobbin 24 will be held stationary. Cylinder body 17 rests in sleeve 14 through bearings 15 and 15a and the tubular guiding member 16. Sleeve 14 rotates together with the thread collector disc which in its turn is rotated by the whorl 3.
  • the bottom of the balloon restrainer can may have such a trough shape that the annular gap between the bottom of the can and the thread collector disc and of the overflow dish carried thereby gradually tapers in downward direction and has. its outer marginal portion directed upwardly.

  • a nozzle body 37 which extends into the interior of ,thethread collector disc 5. It is by means of this nozzle that a treating medium such as a liquid, steam or the like is sprayed directly into the inner space of the thread collector disc 5. This brings about that the treating medium of collector disc 5 will be present in considerable concentration and a will act uponthe yarn 8 in this space while entering the core of the yarn which is subjected to the main twistingeffect.
  • the expanding medium will, aided by the centrifugal force of the thread collector disc 5, pass radially outwardly through the exit eyelets at the marginal portion of the thread collector disc 5 and will thus follow directly the course of the yarn 8.
  • the medium passes together with the yarn 8 between the housing bottom 33 and the overflow dish 12 and along the outer wall of the bobbin can-38which is carried by the cone-plate 27.
  • the tapering of the expansion chamber outside the thread collector disc 5 should not be so great that the .treating intensity of the medium will be reduced to such an extent as to reduce the treating effect.
  • the concentration of the medium will, during its passage through ,the gap, be substantially.maintained;
  • the pumping effect of the rotating parts in cooperation with the flue effect of the balloon restrainer, draws air through to such an extent that it aids in the drying out of the yarn.
  • This flue eifect is eliminated, according to the present invention, by the bottom closing the can. Additionally, this brings about a reduction in the air resistance so that the necessary power requirement for the spindle drive will be reduced. Tests have proved that the saving amounts to 10%. This is an .important diiference of the arrangement according to the present invention over heretofore known spindles in which, on the basis of incorrect assumptions, the suction is specifically increased by a blower.
  • the bottom of the balloon restrainer can is provided with an opening adapted to be closed, through which opening the interior of said can will be accessible while on the other hand, the interior may be closed when the double twist spindle isin operation and treating media are sprayed into the thread collector disc.
  • the bottom 33 is provided with an opening 39 which is adapted to be closed by means of a tiltable flap or gate 40 adapted to be actuated by a handle 41.
  • the said flap or gate 40 is so designed that it acts as actuating lever for a spindle brake while simultaneously interrupting the supply of the treating medium. Morespecifically, gate 40 isprovided with a downwardly extending arm 42 having its lower end pivotally connected to a yoke 43 of the spindle brake 4. A brake lever 45 is pivotally connected to the protruding nose 44. To this end the pivot 46 carried by the nose 44 engages a slot 47 in the brake lever 45. In this way, it will be assured that a downward tilting of gate 40 will actuate the brake lever 45 so that the latter will cause the spindle 2 to come to a standstill.
  • a bar 49 the other end of whichis pivotally connected to a lever 54 the pivot 51 of which controls valve body 52.
  • This pivot 51 will, in response to the tilting movement of I gate 40 in upward or downward direction, open or close an opening in the valve body 52 through which the treating medium passes.

  • the arrangement according to the present invention may also be equipped with any standard wellknown thread control which, in response to a thread break, 'will interrupt the supply of treating medium to.
  • the nozzle body 37 With this thread control and interruption of the supply of treating medium to the nozzle body 37 may furthermore be operatively connected an automatic braking or stopping of the spindle. In this Way, it will be assured that when the unwinding of the thread is interrupted or has been completed, also a stoppage in the supply of the treating medium will be eifected.
  • the thread control comprises pigtail 59 which has one end portion electrically insulated and pivotally connected at 55 to a machine frame part.
  • pigtail 59 occupies the dash position shown in FIG. 2 in which contact 57 carried by pigtail 59 engages contact 58 and closes the circuit of conductor 64.
  • an electromagnetic valve 52a which corresponds to the valve body 52 of FIG. 1 is closed by an actuating magnet 60.
  • FIG. 3 shows flap or gate 40 of FIG. lin its full line position representing the closing position and also in dash position representing the opening position.
  • valve 52 occupies its open position in which a treating fluid is dispensed through the nozzle body 37.

  • rotatable whorl means arranged substantially coaxially with regard to said tubular member and below the latter in spaced relationship thereto, hub means mounted on said whorl means for rotation therewith, said hub means having outwardly extending flange means, annular bottom means connected to said flange means and surrounding said whorl means in spaced relationship thereto so as to confine therewithan annular gap, and nozzle means adapted to be connected to a source or" thread and yarn treating fluid and extending through said annular gap, the mouth of said nozzle means being directed toward said flange means for humidir'ying a thread or yarn'passing through the lower end of said tubular member and between said flange means and said bottom means.
