Description

ilNrrnn STATES F I iE;
ATENT LOUIS SANDERS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO ELIZA SANDERS,
OF SAME PLACE.
WAIST-BELT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 312,168, dated February 10, 1885.
Application filed March 8, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LOUIS SANDERS, of Brooklyn, Kings county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Ladies WVaist-Beltspf which the folloning is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improved ladys waist-belt, by which it can be readily adjusted to any size of waist, and which presents a neat and finished appearance.
The invention consists of a belt one end of which is provided with a series of holes and a buckle having atongue at one side that looks into one of said holes, and projecting studs at I 5 the other side, said studs being engaged by slotted eyes at the other end of the belt, as will appear more fully hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved 2o ladys waist-belt. Fig. 2 is a detail side View of the inner and outer ends of the same; and Fig. 3 is a detail horizontal section of the buckle on line 00 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A' in the drawings represents a ladys waistbelt, which is provided at the inner end with a series of holes, a, re enforced by eyelets, and with an adjustable buckle, B, that is slipped by its center bar over the belt and provided at one side with a backwardly-projecting hook-shaped tongue, I), that is inserted into one of the holes a. The buckle B is further provided at its opposite side with forwardprojecting headed studs d d, which take into slots (1 cl of the opposite or front end of the belt A. The'slots d d are re-enforced by metal plates LP, the slots being wide enough at one end for the passage of the heads of the studs (1 d, and narrower at the other end for c the shanks of the same. A sliding leather loop, 6, is placed over the front end of the belt after the same has been closed.
The advantages of my improved waist-belt are, that the same size of belt can be used for any size of waist, whereby the making up of an assortment of different sizes of belts in one box is dispensed with. The fitting of ladies belts is thereby facilitated, and thereby the cutting off of the buckles and reattaehing of 5( the same, which has to be resorted to when a proper size of belt cannot be supplied, done away with. A neat appearance is imparted to the belt, and the opening and closing of the belt rendered easier and more convenient than with the buckles and straps heretofore in use.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of a belt,provided at its outer end with a fixed slotted metallic plate 6( and at its inner end-with a series of holes, and an adjustable buckle, consisting of a plate provided on its underside with a 1oop,through which the belt passes, at its rear edge with an inwardly-projecting hook, which grasps said 6 belt through one of said holes, and onits face or front side with outwardly-projecting headed studs, which interlock with said fixed slotted plate, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my 7 invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses. LOUIS SANDERS.
