Description

(No Model.) v
0. H. HAUBNER'.
I HAT HOLDER. No. 309,047. Patented Dec. 9, 1%84.
'INVENTOR m i l h w v ATTORNEYS.
NlIED drains aren't trite.
OSCAR H. HAUBNER, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
HAT HIOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 309,047, dated December 9, 1884.
Application filed April 16, 1884.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, OSCAR H. HAUBNER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hat-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. i
This invention consists of a hat holder adapted to be attached directly to the hat, and arranged to be folded into the crown of the hat when not in use.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a hat having my invention applied thereto, showing in full lines the hook folded back into the crown of the hat, and in dotted lines the hook brought to position for holding the hat. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device detached from the hat, showing the preferred means for locking the hook back into the crown of the hat; and Fig. 3 is a plan view showinga modiiication.
A represents the hook or holder. This is made of a narrow strip or wire of metal, and is hinged to the plate B, which is adapted to be attached to the sweat-leather 0, inside of the hat D,by means of the points a. stamped out of the plate 13, or by other suitable means.
In the form of device shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the plate 13 is formed with the extension I), which is formed with the holding-lip a, under which the hook A is adapted to be sprung for holding the hook A turned back into the crown of the hat.
Instead of the lip c, the plate B may be formed or provided with the spring-tongue (1, (shown in Fig. 3,) arranged to act against the (No model.)
end 6 of the hook A both for holding thehook when folded back into the crown of the hat, and also when brought to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. l for use. p
The manner of using the device and its utility are obvious from the drawings. It is cheap, durable, convenient, and practical, and is always ready for use, and does not in any manner inconvenience the wear of the hat, and is adapted to be attached to all styles of hats.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination. with a hat, of a hook pivoted to the inside of the crown of the same, whereby the said hook may be swung into the crown of the hat when not in use, or out to support the same when desired, as set forth.
2. The combination, with a hat, of a plate attached to the inside of the crown of the hat, and a curved arm provided with a hooi; pivoted to said plate, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a hat-holder, the combination, with the attaching-plate B, of an arm having a hook at its end pivoted to said plate, and a holding device on said attaching-plate for holding the arm in position, substantially as herein shown and described.
4. In a hat-h0lder,the combination, with the plate 13, provided with the fastening-points a, and the extension I), having lip c, of the hook A, pivoted to said plate, substantially as herein shown and described.
OSCAR I-I. HAUBNER.
