BUTTON-.FASTEN'ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 808,268, dated November 18, 1884-.
Application filed September 29, 1884. (N0 model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN LOWE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Button-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in button-fasteners, which will be hereinafter more fully described,.and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a blank struck out of sheet metal. Fig. 2 is the top View of the blank bent into its proper form. Fig. 3 represents a piece of cloth or leather with the fastener represented in two different-shaped holes. Fig. at is a section on line a: a: of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a blank of the usual size for shoe-buttons. Fig. 6 shows the fastener and button in place.
a is the cap or head of the fastener. a is the tail-piece, and a is the connecting-shank, which is to be bent into a loop for the-eye of a button, as seen in Fig. 4.
In Fig. 3 is represented a piece of leather or cloth in which are two different-shaped orifices for the loop to pass through. d is a round hole, and d is a slit cut with a sharppointed knife, which will be spread by the shank into the form at d.
The manner of fastening the button is as follows: The fastener a is put through the eye of the button, as seen in Fig. 4. The tail end a. is then inserted in the orifice d or d in the leather or cloth and worked through it, and by twisting the head a around in the orifice that also is passed through, and the two parts a and a will lie flat upon the cloth, as shown in Figs. 3 and 6.
I claim- 1. A button-fastener blank consisting of a T-shaped head-piece and central bar, a, with sectional piece a, substantially as shown and described.
2. A button-fastener made from a blank piece, shown and described, consisting of a T-shaped head and sectional tailpiece, with intermediate loop for holding the button.
