Definitions

  • FIG. 1 is an elevation view of the improved device
  • FIG. 2 is a vertical section view of the same
  • FIG. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary section view
  • FIG. 4 is a cross-section view as if on line 44 of FIG. 2;
  • FIGS. 56 are sectional views of certain parts.
  • a device of the invention includes a glass container or bottle having a reduced upper or neck portion 11 externally screw threaded at 12 and upon which is threaded a sheet metal cap 14 having an internally threaded flange 16 and a central hole 17 (FIG. 5) edged by a flange 19 whose edge is shown at 21.
  • a gasket means comprising an upper gasket 18 of paper coated on its lower face with polyvinyl or similar material and a lower gasket 20 which is resilient and compressible and is inert to the ink in bottle 10.
  • a tubular nib holder 22 has an inner or lower flange 24 and an outer or upper flange or crimp 26 securing nib holder 22 to cap 14.
  • In nib holder 22 is a felt nib 28 secured by detents 29. The upper end of the nib projects beyond holder 22 and the lower end projects below it to make contact with a felt pack or absorbent ink carrier 30 in bottle 10.
  • a thin aluminum cover 32 seals nib holder 22.
  • a shrunken plastic shroud 34 seals cap 14 and bottle 10.
  • felt pack 30 is squeezed or compressed in reduced neck 11 of bottle 10 and has on its sides air channels 35 which open to a space 36 above felt pack 30 and this space in turn opens to atmosphere through channels 37 at the sides of nib 28 in holder 22.
  • cap 14 tightly onto bottle 10 causes gaskets 18 and 20 tightly to seal the bottle. These gaskets seal the cap to the nib holder, with the aid of flanges 24 and 26 of holder 22, these flanges cooperating in forced contact with the cap to seal the nib holder to the cap.
  • Nib holder 22 is located in the central hole 17 of cap 14 and such hole is edged by the downwardly directed flange 19 which terminates in edge 21.
  • Flange 19 is tightly gripped in the annular channel external of the nib holder provided by the flanges 24 and 26 and edge 21 is in tight sealing contact with flange 24.
  • a marking instrument comprising a vapor confining open end ink reservoir having an absorbent ink saturated carrier therein, a top assembly comprising a cap secured to the open end of said reservoir and having a central opening therein, a nib holder extending through said opening and sealed to said cap, an absorbent nib in said holder having one end extending therefrom into said reservoir and in ink receiving contact with said carrier, said holder having a flange arranged beneath said cap Patented Oct.
  • a fluid reservoir having an open end, a cap having an end wall closing said open end and having an inwardly directed flange defining a central opening therein, an open nib holding tube extending through the opening in said cap and closely engaged by said flange, said tube having an external flange at the outer side of and forcibly engaging said cap and an inner flange longitudinally spaced therefrom at the inner side of said end wall of said cap, and compressible gaskets clamped between said external and inner flanges and the said inner flange having forced contact with the edge of said inwardly directed flange of said cap.
  • a marking instrument comprising a vapor confining ink container, an absorbent ink carrier therein arranged and adapted to be saturated with a supply of volatile ink, a cap for said container including an end wall provided with an opening defined by an annular sealing flange extending out of the plane of said end wall and coaxial with said opening, a tubular nib holder having longitudinally spaced laterally extending peripheral outer and inner flanges arranged to provide between them a laterally open annular peripheral channel, and vapor confining gasket means operatively positioned in relation to said cap and said holder to effectively obstruct ieakage of ink and vapor between said cap and said nib holder and be tween said container and said cap, said sealing flange of said cap and portions of said gasket means in cooperating relation thereto being clamped in said channel between said longitudinally spaced flanges of the nib holder and with the free edge of said sealing flange closely engaged with the inner one of said spaced flanges.
  • gasket means includes an outer gasket of compressible cellulose fibers faced with polyvinyl and an inner gasket of a plastic inert to the ink carried by said carrier.
  • a marking instrument comprising a vapor confining ink reservoir having an open end, an absorbent ink carrier therein saturated with a supply of volatile ink, a cap arranged and adapted to close the open end of said reservoir, said cap having an end Wall provided with an axial opening defined by an inwardly directed annular sealing flange presenting an inwardly exposed edge surrounding said opening, a tubular nib holder open at its ends and having an annular peripheral surface portion in sealing engagement with said sealing flange of the cap, an ink absorbent nib carried by said nib holder with its inner end in ink absorbing contact with said carrier and with its outer end extending beyond the outer open end of the nib holder, an assembly of two contiguously mounted vapor confining gaskets embracing said sealing flange, one of said gaskets being positioned between said cap and said other gasket, and said nib holder having a radially References Cited in the file of this patent extending peripheral flange at its inner end presenting a UNITED STATES PATENTS
