K. MIKELEITIS MOISTENBR' FOR POSTAGE STAMPS, ENVELOPES, AND THE L'IKEl Filed April 18I 1925 Patented Mar. 16, 1926.
KURT MIKELELTIS, OF SCHLAUPITZ, GERIIANY.
MOISTENER FOR POSTAGE STAMPS, EnvnLorns, Ann een man] Application led April 18, 1925. Serial No. 24,290.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, KURT h/IiKnLnrrrs, a citizen ot the German Republic, residing at Schlaupitz, District Reichenbach, Silesia,
D Germany, have invented certain n-ew and useful Improvements in Moisteners for Postage Stamps, Envelopes, and the like, ot' which the. 'following is a specification.
This invention relates to an implement N which is designed to serve 'tor moistening postage stamps, the gumm-ed iaps oit envelopes, labels or the like and is characterized in that in a sleeve ot convenient material closed by a water tight litting cap a tube is l inserted which carries a sponge partly projecting from the lower end ot the tube where it is held, on the one l and, by a beak shaped tapering of the tube and, on the other hand, by clamping screws.
An embodiment ot the invention is shown, by way ot example, in the accompanying` drawing in which- Fig. l is a side elevation and Fig. 2 a vertical section.
The sleeve a has at its upper end a removable cap with rubber insertion c. The sleeve is tapered at the lower'end and two clamping screws (l are screwed into opposite sides ot this end. ln sleeve o a tube c is 30 located and in this tube a sponge j is insorted. The lower end ot thetube is ot similar shape as the lower end of the sleeveI but slit so that when the screws (Z are tightened the parts termed by the slits are.
pressed tightly aroundthe sponge f, the out flow ot water from the tube through the sponge being thus prevented. The edges ot' each slit are. preferably made to overlap one another when the tube end is compressed by the tightening` ot the screws.
In order to prepare the implement tor use the screws are tightened, the cap is removed and vater poured into the tube whereupon the cap is put on again and the screws are loosened so that the water can Filter through the sponge to meisten the outer projecting end ot the saine.
I claim A moistener tor postage stamps, envelopes and the like comprising in combination a sleeve ot suitable material tapering at the lower open end and open at the upper end, a tightly fitting cap closing the upper end ot said sleeve, a tube inserted in said sleeve designed to be filled with water, the lower end of said tube being tapered and having longitudinal slits to make this end ot the tube elastic, a sponge in the lower end et the. tube projecting from the end ot said tube, and clamping screws mounted in the sleeve for pressing together the elastic slit front end ot said tube so that the sponge is compressed andthe iltering ot water through the samev prevented until said screws are loosened.
ln testimony whereot l a'llix nl v signature.
