UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNEST F. PFLUEGER, OF AKRON, OHIO.
HARNESS ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 303,318, dated August 12, 1.884. Application filed April 26, 18S-i. i (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EENEsT F. PELUEGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State f Ohio, have invented a new and useful Harness Attachment, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to an attachment for harness; and it has for its object to provide a device of this character which may be attached to different parts of a harness to produce an ornamental effect.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be plainly visible at night, thus warning pedes- I beveled edge, a.
trians or drivers of vehicles ofthe approach of a team.
The invention consists in the improved construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
- In the drawings, Figure l is a front view of an attachment constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse section.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several figures, A represents a glass plate of any desired shape, and having a The plate A is provided on its rear side or back with a design or initial letter. Upon the backof the plate A is provided a covering of metallic leaf, which may be secured thereto by any suitable adhesive substance, covering the entire back of the plate A, and imparting to the same the appearance of the leaf with which the back thereof is covered. If so desired, the metal leaf may be dispensed with, and the back of the plate A covered lwith luminous paint, which,
at night, will be plainly visible and give warning of the approach of a team.
O represents a back plate, to which the glass plate A isV attached, and which is provided with a flange, D, to receive and retain the beveled edge of the said glass plate. E represents a loop for attaching the back plate to av harness, the same passing through perforations formed in the rear side of the back plate C, and having washers c interposed between the heads formed on the ends thereof and the inner side of the back plate C.
It will be seen that my improvements are applicable to many uses; hence I would have it understood that I do not limit myself to their application to harness attachments.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In aharness attachment, the combination, with a glass plate having an initial letter or other design, of a coating of luminous paint, substantially as set forth.
2. In aharness attachment, the combination, with a glass plate having a beveled edge and provided upon its rear side with any desired design, of a back plate having a iiange to receive and retain said plate, said back plate being provided upon its rear side with perforations, through which pass the ends of an attaching-loop, said ends being provided with heads, and washers interposed between said heads and the inner side of the back plate, substantially asset forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aiiixed my signaturcin presence of two witnesses.
. ERNEST F. PFLUEGER.
