To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, NATHAN O. MOODY, of Newburyport, in the county .of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rein-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and-exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the. ac companying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective of a portion of the rump of a horse, showing the application of my improved rein-holder; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder attached to a portion of the crupper-strap, and showing a portion of the hip-strap.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.

My invention has relation to rein-holders;

' and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of a rein-holder at tached to the crupper-strap of the harness, so that the reins may be held in position ready to grasp when the horse or horses are attached to a vehicle having no dash-board upon which a rein-holder maybe attached, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates the .crupper-strap, and B the hipstrap, and immediately behind the point at which thehip-strap passes through the back or crupper strap the rein-holder G is secured. This holder consists of a fiat spring-hook having two laterally-proj ecting perforated wings, D, upon its base-plate'F, which has a perfora tion, E, through-which and the perforations in the lips or wings the securing rivets or tacks pass which secure the holder to the strap. 0

The free end of the holder points rearward; and it will be seen that the reins may be placed in the spring hook and held there, whence they may be removed in a moment of time, and that in thismanner the reins may be held within easy reach of the driver, where there is no dashboard for the attachment of a holder.

Having thus described my invention,I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States-- A rein-holder consisting of a flat rearwardlypointing spring-hook having two perforated laterally-projecting lips upon the sides of its base-plate, and a perforation in the rear end of the base-plate for the reception of fasten ing rivets, in combination with the crupperstrap of a set of harness, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
