Be it known that I, VVALTER B. DUNCAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paris, in the county of Lamar and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Tug- Clip, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved form of tug clip.

An object of the present invention is to provide a clip which maybe used in connection with hames having adjustable drafts or locker heads.

A further object is to provide a tug clip so constructed as not to in any way damage the collar to which it is secured.

A further object is to provide an improved tug clip intended to be used with heavy farm harness and possessing a neat appearance and at the same time embodying great strength.

l/Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings accompanying this specification and forming a part thereof, the preferable form of my invention is illustrated, in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improved tug clip secured to a harness trace. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross sectional view thereof taken through the center of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a top plan view thereof.

Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 represents a flat plate formed integral with which is the rearwardly extending wing 2. To the front portion of the plate 1 and in alinement therewith is the eye 3 preferably formed of round metal and integral with the plate 1. The top plate 4: is provided with a rearwardly extending wing 5 similar to the portion 2 of the plate 1 and the plate 4 is formed integral at its front portion with the eye 3. tions 7, from which it will be ayugarent that my improved tug clip is adapted to be used in connection with traces upon which has been sewed a central ply. The forming of the lower portion of the eye 3 in alinement with the lower plate 1 prevents any likeli hood of the clip digging into and destroying the portion of the collar or hame to which the tug clip is secured. Furthermore the cross sectional contour of the upper portion of the clip is such that the maximum strength will be obtained for the given amount of material used. Furthermore the outlying wings or portions 7 prevent any tendency of the edges of the traces from rolling or curling such as is usual with tug and hame clips.

The tug clip so constructed is especially designed for use with heavy farm harness and is adapted to transmit the pressure applied thereto to the trace in a distributive and effective manner.

In order that the plates may be secured to the harness trace, suitable apertures 8 are provided therein and through which are extended the rivets or other securing means The forming of the eye 3 as described, allows the tug clip to be secured to the draft eye of a hame without requiring any special construction thereof such as guard flanges and so forth, which would necessarily add considerably to the cost of the harness. By the providing of the apertures and securing means at the central portion of the upper and lower plates in the extending wings therefrom and in the two edges of the said plates, the stress from the clip is distributed uniformly and in an efficient manner to the trace.

Having thus fully described the construction of my improved device, what I claim to be new and original with me is 1. A tug clip comprising a lower plate with a rearwardly extending portion, an upper plate of relatively less width than the lower plate, spaced a distance therefrom and extending parallel thereto, downwardly extending side flanges carried by the upper plate, outwardly extending flanges carried by the lower edges of said side flanges and extending parallel to the said lower plate, the said top plate and side flanges adapted to embrace the raised central ply of a trace therebetween, the outwardly extending flanges of the upper plate and the lower plate adapted to engage the body portion of a trace therebetween, and an eye extending forwardly from the central portion of the upper and lower plates.

2. A tug clip comprising a broad flat lower plate with a rearwardly extending narrowed portion, an eye carried by and extending forwardly from the central front portion of said lower plate, an upper plate carried by the upper arm of said eye, the said upper plate of relatively smaller width than the lower plate, spaced a distance therefrom and extending parallel thereto, clownwardly extending side flanges carried by the said upper plate, outwardly extending flanges carried by the said side flanges extending parallel to the lower plate and terminating in alinement with the outer edges thereof, the upper plate and downwardly extending side flanges adapted to embrace the raised central ply of a trace therebetween, the outwardly extending flanges and the lower plate adapted to engage the body portion of a trace therebetween, and means extending through the upper and lower plates and the outwardly extending flanges, adapted to engage and secure a trace thereto.
