Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WM. T. ZOLLICKOFFER, OF SHELBYVILLE, TENNESSEE, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND IVM. BROXVN, OF SAME PLACE.
PLOW.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 30,188, dated September 25, 1860.
To all 'whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, W. T. ZoLLICKorrER, of Shelbyville, in the county of Bedford and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and Improved Plow; and I do hereby declarevlthat the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, in which Figure l, is a side view of my invention. Fig. 2 an inverted plan view of the same. Fig. 3 a detached face view of the clevis.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding' parts in the several figures.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention I will proceed to describe it.
A, represents the beam of the plow which may be constructed in the usual or in any proper way and B, B, are handles which are attached to the beam and braced therefrom in the ordinary manner.
To the back part of the beam A, there is attached a curved bar C. This bar C, is of wrought iron and it is bent so as to form half a square as shown clearly in FiO'. 1, and the bar is attached to one side of the beam A, by a bolt a.
To the saine side of the beam A, there is attached a foot D, which is also made of wrought iron but is straight with the eX- ception of its lower part which is curved. The upper end of the foot D, is attached to the beam by a bolt b, and said upper end is directly under the back end of the upper part of the bar C. The lower part of the foot D, crosses the lower part of the bar C, and is connected thereto by a bolt c. The lower part of the bar C, has a side-piece (Z, attached so as to form a forked end as shown clearly in Fig. 3.
To the lower part of the foot D, the share c, is attached. This share may be of the usual form and it is secured to the' foot by a clasp f, which extends around the foot D, and has its end secured to the share by the bolts or rivets g. The foot D,has a pin h, attached to it, which pin fits in a hole in the share and insures the rm connection of the latter to the former.
The bar C, may be reversed or inverted at any time by withdrawing the bolts a, and c, and having the latter pass through the beam at the point where the bolt a, passed through and having the latter bolt pass through the lower part of the foot D, at the point where the bolt passed through. By thus inverting the bar C, the forked end of the bar will be at the top and the single part at the bottom, the single part serving merely as a land side and well adapted for light shovel shares, the forked end being better adapted for heavier or larged shares.
The front end of the beam A, is inclined as shown clearly in Fig. l, and it is capped or covered with a toothed or serrated bar E, said bar extendin over the front end of the beam and a certain distance over the upper and bottom surfaces of the beam. On this toothed bar the clevis F, is placed. This clevis is a narrow rectangular frame provided at its upper and lower end with a hook (Z, to either of which the draft chain may be applied. The upper and lower inner surfaces of the clevis F, are brought to an edge like a pawl as shown at e, in Fig. l. This clevis F, may be adjusted on the bar E, in various positions so that its upper hook CZ, may be placed nearer to or further back from the front end of the beam, and the lower hook d', may also be adjusted nearer to or further back from the front end of the beam and also adjusted on the inclined end of the beamvas shown in red in Fig. 1.
By the above arrangement of the clevis it will be seen that the application of the draft chain to the beam may be varied as occasion may require.
I-Iaving thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The arrangement of the curved bar C, foot D, and beam A with the serrated bar E slotted clevis F, pawls e, e, and hooks (Z, d',
all in the manner and for the purposes here-l in shown and described.
