The holes may be bored in such a manner as to give an ornamental appearance to the toy. Into each of these holes is tted a pin, B, which is of a length exceeding the thickness of the board. These pins it tightly in their respective holes, but not so tightly but what they can be driven through the holes without much difficulty.
The manner of using the toy is for a child to hold the toy in his lap and with a small wooden mallet to drive the pins in flush with the top side of theboard, then to turn the board over and drive them back again, and so on. This will afford endless amusement to the child, and 3 5 at the same time teach it to use its mind and hands correctly in striking the pins. In addition, the letters of the alphabet may be printed on one end of the pins, or on the board near the holes, and the numbers may be printed 4o on the opposite ends, or on the other side of the board; and by instructing the child to strike the pins in regular order, it will thus learn the correct order of the letters and numbers.
I claim as my invention- A toy composed of a board provided with a number vof holes extending entirely through the board, and of uniform size throughout their length, in combination with pins of a length 5o exceeding the thickness of the board, and adapted to nt tightly in said holes, substantially as and for the purpose herein specied.
