WILLIS A. ALLEN, -OF PALMYRA, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO NELSON WILLIS, OF' SAME PLAGE.
IHARNESS-BUCKLl-z.'
SPECIFICATIQN forming part of Letters'PatentlNo. 294,561, dated March 4,' 1884. Application mea october 22, ieee (No mdem To @ZZ whom, it may concern:
' Beit known that I, WILLIS A. ALLEN,.of Palmyra, in the county of Jefferson, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to harness-buckles, and
, will be fully described hereinafter.
Io In the drawings, Figurel is a top viewvof my improved buckle. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of same through center'. Fig. 3 is the under side view of same, and Fig. 4 is an elevation of my improved buckle with the parts detached. 2
The buckle consists of two separate pieces, A being the looped link, on the rear cross-bar of which the tug is hinged. Its sides b b are curved up to the top pressure-bar, c, and thence 2o are curved down to the bottom pressure-bar, d, thus' forming thc double loop for the passage of the buckling-strap. B is the tonguebearing frame or buckle proper. It has the rear cross bar, e, connecting the sides f; f.
These are curved down to be connected again by cross-bar g and form the rear loop, h. EX- tending forward, said sides f f are curved up on a gentler line, to be connected again on about the same plane as`the cross-bar eby 3o the front cross-bar, 7c. On the under side of said cross-bar 7c a lug, Z, is formed, which constitutes the buckle-tongue. Said sides ff are notched at t' t', to 'allow of the insertion of the looped link A inside the loops ofthe buckleframe B. Said frame B may be provided with strengthening-pieces m m for its sides f f and the lip n for the tongue bar k.
The manipulation of my improved buckle is as follows: The looped link A having been 4o fitted to the end of the strap as ordinary buckles are, it is inserted, curved side up, into the loop h of said buckle-frame B and pushed clear through, until the cross-bar g of said frameB rests against the leather embracing the bar a. of looped link A.l The tug end is then passed in the front loop of .said link VA Vand pushed past the rear loop, h, of the buckleframe B, until the tongue lo is opposite the hole of the strap in which it is desired to make the connection. Said tongue k being then pressed 5o down in the hole, the buckling is effected.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim asnew, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
. 1. A harness-buckle consisting of a curved loop -link having cross-bars, the lower of which is adapted to receive and hinge atug or strap, in combination with a ton gue-bearing frame, with rear cross-bar and downwardly-curving sides connected by another cross-bar, and thence ex- 6o tending forward with an upward curve, and then again connected by a front cross-bar on substantially the same plane as the rear crossbar, and above the plane of the intermediate cross-bar, substantially as set forth.
2. In a harness-buckle, the strap-link A, having the curved sides b b, the hinging-bar a, and pressure-bars c and d, in combination with the tongue-bearing frame B, having notched sides f f, cross-bars e and g, forming loop It, 7o`
and cross-bar 7c, wit-h lug l, substantially as shown and described, and for lthe purpose set v forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisco'nsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
VILLIS A. ALLEN.
