The extensible album clasps heretofore in use are composed of several parts that are connected by being soldered, riveted, or screwed togetherin any suitable manner, whereby the manufacture of the clasps becomes complicated andexpensive. p

My invention is designed to simplify the construction of album-clasps and render th cm less expensive; and it consists of an album clasp which is made of one continuous blank and integral with the bail, and of an interior spring-cushioned piece that is hingedby lugs to the edge-plate or mounting of the cover,

A represents the blank from which the main part or casing of my improved album- ,cla-sp is made. The blank A consists of a faceplate, a, with a bail, m, made integral therewith. The face-plate a is connected by narrow transverse bottom piece, I), having alaterally-projecting nose, 0, at one side thereof, to

the rear plate, (2. The rear plate, (I, is provided with projections c 6, one at eachside of the connecting-piece b. The rear plate, (I, is made wider than the face-plate a, so as to be bent inwardly, as shown in Fig. 5, whereby contacts of proper width forsoldering the front and rear plates, a and d, together, and also guide-casings for the cushioningspring of the extensible slide-piece B, are obtained.

The slide-piece B, which forms with the main piece A the album-clasp, is made of a blank, B, which consists of side pieces or shanks, f f, end pieces, 9 from which the pintle-sleeves are bent, projections h h at their upper corners, against which the spiral springs abut after they have been placed in position in the guide-casings formed by the ends at of the rear plate, d. The blank B is curved at the upper edge of its bridge K, and provided with short recesses h h, adjoining the projections it h, as shown in Fig. 2. The curved edge is turned inwardly at right angles to the bridge K and side pieces, f f, so as to form an abutment, K, which is guided by the recesses h h and the inwardly-bent projections h 7:, along the inner guideedges, d d, of the rear plate, (I, of the casing A; The slide-piece B is hinged to the edge-plate or mounting 0, applied to one side of the album-cover, while the bail m is applied to a stud or button, Z, of the edge plate or mounting applied to the other side of the album-cover, as shown in Figs. 7 and 8. The slide-piece B may be either cushioned by spiral springs,that are interposed between the inwardly-bent projections ce at continuous blank A, it forms, in connection with the spring-cushioned slide-piece B, an album-clasp of only two parts, which is applied to the edge-plates of the cover in the usual manner, and which is less expensive,

stronger, and more durable than the albumclasps heretofore in use, which consists. of a greater number of parts.

We are aware that an album-clasp composed of two parts, of which one part slides within the other, and of cushioning-springs to move said parts and apply a pressure to keep the covers of the album closed, has been used heretofore, and we do not claim the same, broadly. Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. An album-clasp composed of a casing the walls and bail of which are made from one continuous blank, and of a spring-cushioned slidevpiece havingguide-shanks, connecting-abutment, and sleeves at the outer ends of the shank, also made from one continuous piece, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination of a casing A, made with its bail m from one continuous blank, and

provided with end guides, d d, and stop-shoulders e c, with spring-cushioned slide piece 13 havin sleeves at the ends of its shanks ff, and an abutment, K, and stop-shoulders bottom piece, I), and a rear plate, (2, the latter being bentinwardly at the ends, and provided with inwardly-bent projections c e at the lower edge, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

4. In an albu1n-clasp,the slide-piece B, composed of shanks ff, having sleeves g at the lower ends, and ofa connecting piece or bridge, K, having an abutment, K, recesses h, h, and projections or shoulders h 71/, substantially as specified.
