Description
FOREST A. RIVERS, OF HELENA, MONTANA.
MOP-HE AD Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 22, 1908.
Application filed May 8, 1908. Serial No. 431,693.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FoREs'r A. RIVERS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Helena, in the county of Lewis and Clark and State of Montana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mop-Heads, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to mop heads, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a mo head in which one portion of the frame is inged to the other so that the mop cloth may be readily removed and replaced by a new one.
Another object of the invention is to provide a spring mounted cross bar in the head, whereby mop cloths of various thicknesses may be secured to the same by the hinged member.
These and other objectsmay be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a mo made in accordance with my invention, an show- .ing the hinged member closed. Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the hinged member open. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the handle socket of the mop head to which an ordinary wooden handle 2 may be secured. The head comprises the frame 3 having downwardly bent side portions 4 and outwardly extending guides 5. Hinged to one of the sides of the frame is a mop clamp 6 provided with points or rongs 7 hinged at 8 and provided with a late 1 keeper 9 having a recess 10. The hinged member may be readily detached from the frame and swung outwardly, as shown in Fig. 2, for connecting a mop cloth to the mop head, and when swung back in the position shown in Fig. 1,
the hinged mop clamp is secured in place by means of a ivoted latch 11 ivoted at 12 and provide with a suitable ug or projection 13 for engagement with the recess 10 in the hinged mop clam This latch is provided with a finger hold 14.
The frame 8 is provided with a sliding cross bar 15 having T-headed ends 16 and reduced shanks 17 which move in slots formed in the downwardly extending sidebars 4. Springs 18 are interposed between the cross bar 15 and the bar 3 of the frame, the ends of said springs being held from displacement by suitable studs 19.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that any thickness of mop cloth may be secured between the hinged mop clam and the sliding cross bar 15 and the thic ness com ensated for by the s rings 18; that a mo 0 0th of any kind may fie quickly connected to the mop head and as (guickly removed therefrom. My mop hea is of simple construction and may be manufactured at slight cost.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed'as new, is
1. A mop head having a mop clamp hinged thereto and provided with prongs to engage the mop cloth, a yielding cross bar mounted on the mop head, and means for holding said hinged member in place.
2. A mop head comprising a frame having down-turned slotted sides, a cross bar mounted to slide in said slots, springs interposed between said cross bar and frame, a mo clamp hinged to the frame and rovided wit 1 I prongs, and a latch for holdlng said mop clamp in closed position.
In testimony whereof I aflixmy signature in presence of witnesses.
FOREST A. RIVERS. Witnesses:
F. L. REEoE, E. M. COLE, GEORGE EDDEN.
