MICHAEL w. Y MAHAR, OF NATIONAL MILITARY HOME, MONTGOMERY COUNTY, AssIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD To PHILLIFFMITCHELL, OF DAYTON, OHIO.
POCKET-BOOK HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part f Letters Patent N0.\281,638, dated July 17, 1883.
Application filed vAprn 5,1883. (No model.;
To all 'whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MICHAEL W. MAHAR,
of National Military Home, `in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Book Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, Clear, and eXact descripf tion of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art tofvhich it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had tol the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specication, and in 'which- Figure l is a perspective View of my improved pocket-book holder without the pocket!- book. Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing it as applied to a pocket-book; and Fig. 8 is a perspective view, showing the pocket-book in section, for the purpose of illustrating a different means of fastening the pocket-book to the holder. v
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts i-n all the figures.
My invention has relation to that 'class of devices which are intended to fasten a pocketbook or wallet securely tO the hand of a person; and it consists in the detailed construction of a pocket-book holder, as hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying. drawings, A represents the body of my improved holder, which is made of leather or other suitable material, and pro- 4vided with cross-pieces B C at opposite ends. Stitched upon these crosspieces are straps 35 (shown at D and E) Of elastic webbing, one of which is provided with buckles F and G, or equivalent fastening devices, for connecting its free ends. Upon the Cross-piece'B is fast# ened a piece of metal, H, the ends of which 4o are bent upwardly and notched, so as to form projecting teeth or points h.
rIhe pocket-book is fastened to the'holder by making small slits in the back and inserting the points h through the same, after which they are clinched down on the inside of the book. If
desired, however, the-fastening device shown in Fig. 3 may be employed, which consists of a screw, the head of which is fastened midway upon the cross-piece B, and the point of which is inserted through the back of the pocket- 5o book by piercing the same, after which .a fiat. head or nut, K, is screwed upon screw IY and tightened down, so asto hold the book firmly in position. By simply unscrewing the fiat nut or head K the pocketbook and its holder may readily be detached. Y To use the holder one of the elastic straps, E, is buckled around the wrist and the other is slipped across the ,backofthe hand, between the thumb and foreinger. If desired, the buckles 'or fastening devices F G may be made adjustable upon their respective ends of the strap, sopas to adjust it to'diiferent-'size hands. Having thusdescribed my invention, Iclaim' and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. The pocket-book holder consisting of the iiexible body A, having cross-pieces B C, elastic straps D and E, having the fastening def vices F G, and a suitably-constructed catch for fastening the pocket-book permanently upon 'the holder, substantially as .and for the purpose shown andset forth.
2. rIhe pocketbook holder consisting of the flexible bodyA, having cross-pieces B C, elas- 7 tic straps D and E, having the fastening devices F G, and the fastening device consisting of thepointed screw I and fiat nut K,whereby thepocket-book may be fastened detachably to the holder, substantially as and for thepurpose shown and set forth. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my Own I have hereunto affixed `my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MICHAEL W. MAHAR.
