4 Claims. (Cl. 132-158) Thepresent invention relates to a barbers comb having pers and shears.
The primaryobject of the present invention is to provide an improved barbers comb having specially formed teeth at one end by means of which the hair may be feathered easily with shears or clippers. 1
Another object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved barbers comb having specially formed teeth at the small end of the comb which readily separate and pick up the hair and are separated from each other by other specially formed teeth which reinforce and strengthen that end of the comb.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a barbers comb permitting the use of a clipper close to the scalp without leaving the usual clipper marks.
These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will be fully apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of the present invention,
Figure 2 is an end view of the present invention on line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is an end view in cross-section on line 33 of Figure 1,
Figure 4 is an end view in cross-section on line 4-4 of Figure l, and
Figure 5 is a further end view in cross-section on line 5-5 of Figure 1.
Referring in greater detail to the drawings in which like numerals indicate like parts throughout the several views, the present invention consists of a comb body having a plurality of teeth disposed in parallel spaced relation with respect to each other and lying in the same plane of and in substantial alignment with the comb back 11, the teeth increasing in length from the one end 12 of the comb body 10 to the other end 13.
The comb is roughly divided in half at a median line and the teeth 14 which are disposed between the median line and the end 13 of the comb are the longer teeth and form a first comb section. Referring to Figure 3, one of the teeth 14 is seen to be attached to the comb back 11 and has a forward or front face 15 tapering from a point adjacent its attachment with the comb back 11 to its free end, the front face 15 and the back face 16 of each of the teeth 14 are flat and taper from the comb back 11.
Disposed between the median line and the one end 12 of the comb body 10 is a second comb section having two types of teeth, 18 and 19, the first of which is seen in end profile in Figure 4, and is seen to have a back face 20 which is flat for a portion of its area and a front face 21 which tapers from a point adjacent its attachment to the comb back 11 to its free end 22 where it forms a point with the curved end portion 23 of the back face 20. Each of the teeth 18 is also tapered on its side edges from a point intermediate of its ends to its free end, as best seen in front elevational view of Figure 1.
2,799,284 -Patented July 16, 1957 Ice the full length of the second comb section. a
The teeth 18 are stronger and serve to reinforce th structure of the comb so that the barber is less likely to bend them to the point of breaking. r
The curved end portions 23 and 25 of the teeth 18 and 19, respectively, permit the barber to apply the shears or clipper to the head of the person getting a haircut without scratching the persons head. I
The curved end portions of the teeth 14 permit the comb to be used on relatively heavy hair and permit the comb to enter the hair easily.
While only a preferred embodiment of the present invention is shown and described, other embodiments may be made. and practiced within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
